We’ve had a wonderful assortment of “calendar” Dobers recently, and Comsos is one more on the list. He’s hardly more than a puppy, chronologically, but he’s a huge, handsome hunk of Arbeitshund, and he lives to be your loving companion.
Carol says he’s an “exuberant young male that needs a bit of work with jumping up, but mostly because he wants to kiss your face and hug you! Being such, he’s still full of himself and has no manners (as any untrained dog tends to be). As an example, the first time I met him, I was sitting in the reception area in the vet‘s office. I leaned over to pet him, and in a flash, he was up in my lap with the front legs around my shoulders!” Thankfully, patient, consistent training is already showing promise."
His former mom tells us that he knows to sit, down, and back off on command. He’s super playful and loves to fetch. He also favors any ball, rope pull toys, and squeaky toys.
She explains that she surrendered him “through no fault of his own. This is an incredibly heartbreaking decision, and my only wish is for him to go to a home that truly understands and appreciates the breed. He is a wonderful dog—well-behaved, loving, and a joy to have in the home—and has brought so much comfort and companionship to our family. Unfortunately, after my husband left, I became a single parent to four children, and my circumstances changed shortly after bringing him home. In order to support my kids, I need to work more and begin travel nursing, which will require me to be away from home for several days at a time. As a result, I’m no longer able to give him the time, attention, and stability he deserves. This decision is coming from a place of love and responsibility, not lack of care. My greatest hope is that he finds a home where he can continue to thrive and be as deeply loved as he has been with us.”
Divorce, unavoidable as it is at times, sure takes its effect on everyone involved.
Observations from our volunteers: “Cosmos is a big puppy with big energy! His intention is to be a gentle giant, but he can‘t quite harness all his love for people. This type of disposition is my personal favorite. He is fun, adventurous, and will elicit a lot of love and laughter in response from his new family. He is such a sweet boy, and when you see his large stature you have to remind yourself that he is still a puppy! He is a quick learner and just needs someone who can handle a strong Dobe and is willing to spend time with him to finish his training.”
“Cosmos is a very affectionate young boy who loves to give kisses and be close. Most of my time spent with him was in the corral where he was a perfect gentleman. He wants to get into your lap and show you just how friendly and affectionate he is! Because of the snow and ice, I couldn’t get a sense of how he was on a leash, but on the way to the corral he was keeping the short lead quite tight, and I was careful to make sure he didn’t pull me too much.”
“Cosmos is a 10-month-old puppy inside a large, adult-sized body. Just like any child, one minute he’s polite and calm, and the next he’s wild and jumping. I saw both sides upon our first meeting. He greeted me by jumping onto my lap, suspecting I had treats, which I did. But he took the treats very gently, with a soft mouth, and as soon as he realized that the treats were gone, he settled down like a gentleman and enjoyed being with me. Later he did more jumping/playing/mouthing - typically upon meeting or when I was leaving him; he doesn’t want you to leave him. I see Cosmos as a young dog who craves human interaction, who has a lot of youthful energy but doesn’t yet know how to contain it, and who has not had the guidance of an owner experienced in raising a strong, active breed. I really, really like this pup. And I know I will be impressed with the adult Doberman he becomes with the right forever family.”
From what I can see, everything about this boy is positive. All he needs is a loving family to guide him into the mature, amazing companion he will be for many years to come.
