This handsome, interested, and interesting fellow is as nice a Doberguy as you could want to know.  I love that on his turn-in form, his former owner said: JUMPING: “just for hugs.”  He further stated that “Financially, I am not able to take care of him by myself.  He deserves to have a better home with someone who can.  This really breaks my heart and spirit.”  The rest of the story is that his girlfriend had left, the dog had gotten out and was struck by a car, and he had no way to care for the dog under the circumstances.  Thankfully, he brought him to DRT, and we’re taking it from there.

Carol adds further information:
“He fractured a bone near ankle.  The vet recommended an e-collar, but for some reason the fellow didn’t use it.  As a result, the dog kept chewing off the splint/cast. Finally, he contacted me out of desperation. I have the beauty now.  When the caste was changed, the veterinarian could note healing already. We are presently managing his leg in the cast with him in an e-collar to keep him from chewing it off, walking for exercise only - four more weeks to go :)  He‘s adjusting quite well to this routine.”

Then, three weeks later, Carol adds this update:
"The wound is healing and granulating, but the break is not showing any signs of bridging.  We may have to be referred to an orthopedic surgeon, but that will be determined shortly."

And more recently, a further update from Carol:
“We had the appointment at NCState in Raleigh/Orthopedic Specialists, and at first we were told thy were going to do radiographs and then operate to place two plates: one in radius and one in ulna.

After radiographs, they found that the bones were in fact healing, and he did not need surgery.  Great news, but we still have to drive to Raleigh once a week to have the splint changed and see how he is progressing. Donations are still needed for his ongoing situation.”

As you can imagine, there‘s significant additional expense associated with all of this specialized treatment and care.  If you would like to have a part in allaying that expense, we would very much welcome your support, and you‘d have a direct part in returning this lovely fellow to full mobility again.

There’s time needed yet to complete the healing, but in the meantime, this wonderfully handsome and agreeable fellow is taking it all in stride (literally) and managing very well under the circumstances.  Imagine how joyful he’ll be when the leg is completely healed and he can run and play again!

Additional observations from our volunteers:
“He was a little wary when we met, but with a cone on his neck and a cast on his leg, I don’t blame him. I did get him to come close to take some treats, but after that he was off looking at everything in the corral. He has a very athletic build and as you can see in his pictures, nice long legs. I’ll bet when he’s all recovered, he’ll be a fast runner!”

"Ziad is a total trooper.  This guy has been through a LOT, but he doesn‘t let it slow him down.  Your heart just goes out to him when you meet him.  He is a high energy Dobe that is friendly and comfortable around people.  I really am looking forward to seeing him without his cast to see his full personality.  He will definitely show off his playful side when he finally gets rid of his cast and the cone of shame!”

From every indication, this is an outstanding fellow who is temporarily sidelined due to the injury, but who will get back into the game with full abilities and interest once his leg is healed.  The only frustration will be waiting patiently until the healing is complete.  (Well, the OTHER frustration is how long can Mama Carol keep up this level of care!)

You know the sequence - apply, acceptance, appointment, arrive, acquaint, away, and he can be yours.  You couldn’t do any better!
