Here’s a bit of history for you:

It’s from the virginia.org website, and it shows the well-known advertising slogan in its various iterations since its inception, going on 60 years ago.

Our Dobergirl Virginia came to us from a shelter, with these comments: "You guys have helped us in the past with Dobermans, so I am reaching out about a very special case. Virginia came in as a stray. She was full of milk and was obviously in pain in her back leg/ hip. The vet examined her, and she was deeply bruised. She’s the sweetest most gentle girl, and she deserves so much better than the hand she has obviously been dealt."

To help dogs such as Virginia are why we exist, and we were of course delighted to take her in and care for and love her until she shortly goes to a true, loving home.

Additional observations from our volunteers:
“When I first met Virginia, she was quiet and reserved. As I spent a little time with her, she was so sweet and just wanted to be loved. She walks nicely on a leash. She doesn‘t seem to know any commands but wants to please, so it’s likely she would learn very quickly. She comes to see you when you approach her. At night she lies down quietly and wags her tail and wants some love and pets more than a treat. In my observation, a well-behaved, quiet lovergirl, she is!”

"I guess the thing that sticks out from my time with Virginia is that I wish I’d had more time with her; she just makes that kind of impression. She’s a tail wagger who loves to have her ears rubbed. In addition to her great personality, she has beautiful, deep- red, rust markings that contrast her black coat wonderfully."

"Virginia is a good sized girl who loves attention and kept putting one foot on my knee as if to keep me from getting up and leaving.  She walked so well on the leash when I moved her from the field back to the kennel – she actually led me on a loose leash, instead of me leading her."

"There‘s something special about Virginia. She‘s like an old soul in a younger body."

Look her pictures over; you can see what a pretty, gentle, lovely Dober she is - glossy coat, happy disposition, probably has birthed a litter or two along the way - just grateful to be in the loving environment at Elijah’s House, and ready to go to a proper, forever home.

If you’re a regular reader, you may have the sequence for making that happen memorized by now: application, acceptance, appointment, arrival, acquaintance, away.  And in the case of this Dobergirl, Virginia is for lovers, and a lover, both.
