Zora Arkus-Duntov was a Belgian of Russian heritage who became known as "the father of the Corvette."  Along the way, he earned a degree in mechanical engineering, married a ballerina, served in the French Air Force in WWII, and later orchestrated the escape of his family from Nazi-occupied France.  Once in the US, he co-founded a successful and innovative mechanical design and production company, became a winning race car driver, setting a stock car record by ascending Pike‘s Peak in 1956 and achieved a record-setting 150 mph on the Daytona Beach course the same year. While at General Motors, where he became Director of High Performance Vehicles at Chevrolet, he was credited with introducing the first mass-produced American car with four-wheel disc brakes.  He also introduced the small-block V8 engine to the Corvette in 1955, developed the famous Duntov high-lift camshaft, and helped bring fuel injection to the 1957 model year.

Arkus-Duntov‘s namesake Dobergirl won‘t likely be known for amazing accomplishments in the canine world, but she‘s a winner, all the same.  She came to us when her human became ill and could no longer keep her.  Here’s how the person who surrendered her describes things:
“Her previous owner has health issues that forced her to move in with her son. She was a longtime friend of my mother’s, so I wanted to help her find her dog a home. I have been trying on my own with no luck, and you guys helped me when my mother passed and I needed to place her Dobermans.  She knows to sit, wait, and “outside,” and in her time with me, she didn’t seem interested in playing games or to care about toys very much.  To my experience with her, she’s a sweet couch potato.”

Observations from our volunteers:
“What a super friendly dog! She came up to me with absolutely no hesitation and wanted to interact right away. She truly is a happy girl, too. She is a petite Dobe who looks younger than her 3 years.”

"Zora is just as petite as they come. The pictures don‘t really show how small she really is. Her size and personality combine for a very cute pup! She loves when you spend time with her, and she lets you know by wagging her entire back end (not just her tail). From my interactions, she seems to have pretty good manners. Zora is the type that will always put a smile on your face and brighten your day!"

"Zora looks like a ‘pocket Doberman’, a little red headed cutie. As soon as I sat down she attached herself to my leg with a Doberman lean, followed shortly with a Dobie head in my lap. She is a little unnerved about all the newness of being at Elijah’s House, but she sure likes being loved on by a human."

"Zora is one of those dogs you really enjoy spending time with because she is so happy and wants to be close to you. Because of her petite size I assumed she was only 9-10 months old. Carol shocked me when she told me that she was 3 years old. I think her size might be an advantage for a mature adopter, or a family with young children. I hope to spend more time with her next week but alas she’s one of those dogs I doubt will be at DRT very long."

"If you want playful and super cute then Zora is your girl.  One of the best personalities to come through DRT this year.  Warning - she is a master manipulator for your affection!  Soft brown eyes that just look right into your soul.  She just has a happy disposition and is friendly at introduction.  She wants to be a lap dog and at her petite size, it is actually somewhat possible.  Zora will do well with most families that will provide her with the love and affection she deserves"

If you’re interested in a pretty, happy, snugly Dobergirl on the smaller side, this may be the one for you.  The sequence is always the same: application, acceptance, appointment, arrival, acquaintance, away.  Don’t be slow; I think she’s going to be popular.
