I have to tell you right up front; there’s a problem with this Dobergirl - WE ALL want to keep her for ourselves! She’s a total doll, and we just wish we could clone her!
Shortly after she first arrived, Carol told me, “She‘s a beauty within and without. I‘m in love with her already.” And more recently she said, “This is a darling Doberman wrapped up in a perfect package.”
And all of us agree. So good luck getting her away from us! (Not really, of course; we exist to place Dobers, not to keep them for ourselves.)
All of this, despite her less-that-stellar former circumstances. She came from a home where she was bred as soon as she was able to become pregnant. (Now she has been spayed by DRT and all that is behind her.) She‘s thin at 48 lbs., mostly due to a hookworm infestation. But she‘s on the road to recovery from that with just a couple of doses of medicine.
Comments from the gracious family that had rescued her: “Concetta came to our home about three months ago from a young couple who said she had come from a breeder, was about a year old, and had already been bred. She was extremely malnourished, had open wounds, was said to have been in an area with 20 other dogs, and was very scared. She was timid being on leash and collar and is very uncertain around people. I thought we could work through all this, but we have ten grandchildren, newborn to age 12, that visit & stay frequently. In her current condition, this is too much for her to handle. Additionally, I have health issues that limit what I can do with her.”
Unsurprisingly, she’s very scared and unsure; however she responds to touching and talking. She walks hesitantly on a leash and has to be reassured while doing so. Carols says that she did jump into the SUV with a little push and lift, and made her way to the back where she could lie down and look out the window. She adds that "She‘s a darling little Doberman that obviously didn‘t have much of a chance to be a puppy that was loved and cuddled. She’s a red-haired beauty, somewhat timid on initial meeting but warms up in her time.”
Additional observations from our volunteers: “I came away from my time spent with Concetta thinking that this girl is going to be some lucky person’s most devoted friend. You can sense the desire to be close to you, along with the trepidation from being passed around from people who don’t really desire a close personal bond with their dog. When I first went in with her, she backed as far away from me as she could. But after talking to her in a soothing tone, she came close enough to my outstretched hand to let me rub her head. She eventually came a little closer and if I moved my hand off of her, she would poke my hand as if to say, “Don’t stop; I’m enjoying this.”
“Concetta is a beautiful red female with some of the best-cropped ears I have seen come through DRT. She is definitely on the shy side as she acclimates to her new surroundings, but you can really sense her strong desire to be a companion. While shy, she will come over after a minute or two of "visual inspection." She is very respectful and soft with her interaction and kisses, super-sweet personality, and desire to bond. I can‘t wait to see how she continues to blossom as she builds trust with the volunteers. I have seen this personality many times as a volunteer ,so I am confident she is going to turn out to be an absolute joy!”
You see what we have here, right? A truly outstanding Dobergirl that had a rough start but whose natural personality is to love and be loved - just a gentle girl who needs a human she can love and trust.
If you think you’re that human, follow the sequence: apply, acceptance, appointment, arrive, acquaint, away. I wouldn’t be slow about it, if I were you! |
