This handsome, intelligent, well-trained Dober fellow came to us from a home where the two miniature, sibling, snappy Schnauzers were at risk of being played to death. One in particular seemed to get his attention from time to time, and it’s never good for a tiny dog to get a large dog’s attention. He played well with the one, but with the other, he’d overdo it, and the humans were concerned that one day it would end in tragedy. As a result, they decided to surrender the Doberman and keep the miniatures; what can you say?
Fifty years ago, I was raising a young racoon (its mother had been killed and it was still small) and a large Doberman. They were best of friends, and they loved to play together. Unfortunately, one day the Doberman unwittingly played too hard, and the racoon died as a result.
A similar thing happened with a Doberman that came to us when his owners had to give him up due to his playing the chickens to death. One would expire, and he’d gently take it to his mom as if to say, “This stopped working. Can you make it run again?” He just needed to be in a chicken-less home. He was a perfect companion for nearly 14 years.
And so it is with Maksum; he just needs to be in a home without teeny dogs. Every other way, he’s outstanding. Carol says, “We all love this Dobe. He is happy for any attention he gets, loves to be made up to, and lives to play fetch! He is well trained and knows all his commands.”
Observations from our volunteers: “He likes to play fetch! I‘ve only had one other Dobie do that since I‘ve been volunteering. Also he‘s very playful and just runs and runs. He’s a very sweet boy.”
“Maksum is a handsome, happy, and friendly guy. He has a lot of energy and could use a little leash work, but he totally loves running and spending time with his humans.”
"Oh my goodness, this boy is built like a tank. But a polite tank. I love that he knows some commands. Even at my first time meeting him, he did lovely, prompt ‘sits’ for treats. He’s an all-around good boy."
I have a feeling this fellow isn’t going to be around for long; he’s just too straight-up good. You know the drill: apply, acceptance, appointment, arrive, acquaint, away. Now be quick! |
