Good with older children.
These lovely litter mates came to us from a home where they were fighting more and more as they approached adulthood.  Their human dad died a while back, and their human mom tried for several months to keep them, but it was more than she could handle and she’s at her wits’ end.  Truth be told, they were his dogs anyway, and when they continued to fight, she had no choice but to surrender them.  She tells it this way: “My husband died, and he‘s the one who really wanted Dobies. I‘ve tried to figure things out, but know I can‘t do right by them.”

As a result, they will indeed be placed separately.

Danae is more tentative around strangers, but warms up quickly, while Gaea is more outgoing. They’ve both had basic obedience training.  They love to play with toys, especially harder rather than softer, and they both are overall excellent Dobergirls who simply can’t work out who the queen is.

Observations from our volunteers:
“Danae was very shy at first and her back legs were shaking, but within three or four minutes of me sitting on the bench near her, she relaxed and seemed to enjoy my petting her. She eventually started smiling and gave me several kisses!”

“I got to meet Danae last night for a little bit and was not disappointed. She was a little bit shy at first, so I played with some of the other dogs and kept noticing how observant she was. I went into her play area to spend some time, and she got closer and took the opportunity to sniff me from behind but still wasn‘t quite ready to totally engage. I gave her some peace and let her continue to watch me play with others. Eventually she started barking at me to come and visit with her. A nice butt rub and she became putty in my hands from that point! Sitting with her for a bit, I could see the sensitive soul that she has! She strikes me as one who will be a velcro Dobe with a super high level of loyalty and attachment.”

“Gaea is a bit more outgoing than her sister and readily was coming up to me and rubbing against my legs. She sat on command when asked and enjoyed the treats she was rewarded with.”

“Gaea is just as cute in person as she is in the pictures. Cute, floppy ears, and a relaxed attitude are hard to beat. She wants to follow you around and even shows some intentional behavior to try and spark your interest into giving her attention. She’s another Dobe that gives soft kisses rather than trying to peel the skin from your face with heavy licking! She will steal your heart before you even know it!

These two girls need separate, loving homes; it’s as simple as that.  If you sense that your home may be a match for one of them, the sequence remains the same: apply, acceptance, appointment, arrive, acquaint, away. Here’s hoping you‘re successful in making one or the other of them part of your family.
