We love all our Dobermans, but some who come through seem to be especially outstanding examples of conformation and temperament, and Cross is one - thick, glossy coat; nicely blocked head; properly sober look (you want a Doberman to look as though he means business, even if he’s a couch potato!); and an easygoing agreeableness to him that makes him a perfect companion. To be sure, he’s energetic and intelligent and not a dog to be ignored. But he’s one who will, with proper attention and exercise, be a welcome addition to a loving family.
He came to us from a home where he was loved and well cared for. Here’s how his former owner describes their circumstances: We do not have the ability to give him the time and attention he deserves due to our work schedules and other commitments. He is a high-energy animal that needs regular stimulation and interaction, either via being outside, playing with other animals, or playing with people. Currently, during a typical day he only has less than an hour of playtime, and he will stare at us and whine when we are not meeting his activity needs (which makes sense, as he has been bored and alone all day). We recognize this is not the way he deserves to live and that there are better-suited living environments for him.”
We further learned from his owner that he knows to sit, stay, “lay down,” heel, go tinkle, and “go stinky” on command. He also knows to shake, and he loves playing fetch the best. His favorite toy is a rubber squeaky ball with the little spikes all over it. He will carry it with him most places and also prefers to play fetch with it.
Carol adds that “This boy is super friendly, loves other dogs, and is an all-around, great companion.”
Observations from our volunteers: “This fellow is so sweet! He has an amazing personality, loves his play balls, and just wants to be around people. He walks well on a leash without pulling much. He‘s so breath-takingly handsome! He loves to play fetch. We hung out in the driveway field and threw around his rubber doggy tire for a while. He‘s good about checking in on you and making sure you‘re around and already has some solid basic commands down.”
"Cross is another great male dobe that has come through DRT recently. He is playful but yet also has pretty good manners. Very handsome and has the shiniest black coat! He is probably happiest with an active lifestyle but more importantly he just wants to be included with whatever adventure is going on in your life. Dobermans can be very different in size and personality so it is difficult to lump them into a "one size fits all" category. However, I will say this guy checks all the boxes for me!"
“I know this is going to sound strange but, when I met Cross today, I thought about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. You ask why? Well, Goldilocks tried all three bears’ porridge, chairs, and beds before she found just the right one of each. Well, with Cross you’ll find the same thing. His size, his good looks, and his personality are just right! You really couldn’t ask for more!”
“Today was my first time meeting Cross. He was out in the exercise yard visiting with other volunteers but came running up to greet me as soon as I entered. This boy is friendly and outgoing. He jumped upwards to say hello but did not jump on me - nice. Cross has so much joy for life. I think he will be a real pleasure as part of a family.”
This is clearly an outstanding fellow; I wouldn’t be slow in going through the process; I can’t imagine him staying here for long. Apply, acceptance, appointment, arrive, acquaint, away - it’s just that simple. |
