This pleasant, agreeable fellow came to us from a shelter that took him in twice in times past. He’s a happy fellow - inquisitive, interested, eager to fit in, and unsurprisingly a bit uncertain at the moment with all he’s been through.
Here’s how volunteers from the shelter describe him and his circumstances: “This fella is a great dog, well behaved, calm, sociable, housebroken, and good on leash. He did well both inside the building and outside. Several small dogs and one bully were there (at an adoption event), and he was fine with all of them. Since being at the pound, he has not shown the first ounce of aggression. He is very sociable with other dogs and seems to want a playmate. I walked him all around the garden area and found him very calm, interested, and well behaved. He knows to sit, stay, come on lead, down, and treat. We played “find the treat” several times, looking for them in my hands.
He first came into this animal control pound as a stray about a year ago and was adopted by a local family shortly thereafter. About a week or so ago, he was returned by the adopters with the explanation that ‘the man was away a lot, and the dog was really his dog.’ Apparently, he also wouldn’t leave the chickens alone, to their disadvantage. They also said that he has anxiety during storms. It hasn‘t stormed around here in months, so I am unclear as to when this may have become evident. He showed no signs of caring about any of the little dogs around him here or at the pound. In fact, he has quickly become a volunteer favorite, as he was last time he was here. I am praying that you can take him in. He deserves the best chance of a real home. He really is a fine boy, and handsome as all get out!”
“Seeing that bright happy face and playful but well behaved attitude, one would assume he has led a charmed life. Sadly, not so. He had been surrendered due to being "noisy". At the pound, there is always something going on, and this boy was interested in all of it. He quickly became a volunteer favorite, with several of us competing for who would walk him first! He turned out to be easy to walk and anxious to please. He was also anxious to show you how well he could fetch his ball and return it to you, dropping it either at your feet or directly into your hand, never without a big smile on his face. To meet him and play with him and enjoy his playful but gentle behavior, it was clear he was not going to let this misfortune get him down. He never gave up on things getting better, and this attitude has served him well. Soon, another volunteer and I set off in the early morning with this sweet fella. He was an angel, lying in the back seat, leaning forward every hour or so just to check in. He seemed confident that all was well, and that he was on an adventure. He met Carol and the others, and we are now praying for a permanent home for this guy, he deserves nothing less. To meet him is to love him.”
Observations from our volunteers:
"During the time I spent with Hoppy, he was friendly but somewhat indifferent toward me. When we returned from our walk up the long DRT driveway, it occured to me that this must be a lady’s dog. As soon as he saw a couple of the ladies standing around with Carol, he was all wiggles and smiles, and couldn’t wait to have them make over him. I was a second or third banana at that point, but he was happy!"
There’s really not much more that needs to be added. By known history and by his brief time with us, it’s apparent that he’s a good, good boy that, for one reason or another, has been passed along by his former owners. He’s ready for a home that will make him part of the family forevermore. If you think yours is the one, this is the sequence: apply, approval, appointment, arrive, acquaint, away. What are you waiting for? |
