Good with other dogs.
Interested in the cat when tested, but seemed more curious about what it was.  Easily distracted when on a leash.
Good with older children.
This strikingly handsome, large, calendar Dober came to us from a home where he was generally well cared for and loved, but where his family’s busy schedule left him home alone or boarded much of the time.  Here’s how his former owner tells it:
“When we got Dimitri we were home all the time and were able to give him attention. Our two kids are older now and and involved in multiple travel sports.  As a result, we have to travel often, requiring us to put him in a kennel while we’re away. Additionally, we are not home a lot during the day to walk him and give him the care and exercise he deserves. He needs a place where he can run and play a lot. Also, he doesn’t need to be sent to the boarder every other weekend. We don‘t have time to play games with him, but he loves balls and toys he can’t tear up.  His favorite is a rubber toy tire.  We want a good home for him where he can play outside and be given lots of affection. He is a very sweet and friendly dog.”

Their loss will be some fortunate family’s gain, I’ll say.  I’d take him home in a heartbeat myself, if I could.  As you read the observations from our volunteers, you’ll see that the discerning, aspiring Dober owner will risk a ticket getting here to take him home!

Observations from our volunteers and adopters:
“Dimitri is what I call just a great "hang-out guy". He‘s a big boy with a calm demeanor. He wants to be around you but doesn‘t get in your way. I can see his protective nature, which is one of the best traits of the breed. He‘s a little strong on a leash, but after the initial first few minutes, he relaxes and enjoys his walk. I think he‘s just excited to get out and go for a walk.”

“Dimitri is a friendly and loving big boy with puppy energy. Upon walking for the first time into his exercise field, he greeted me with an open invitation to be petted and played with. Knowing simple commands, he sat for me the first time.  Leash walking is a bit of a tug and pull, especially across the field because he is interested in all the smells and sights. But I am sure with persistence he will be a good leash walker.”

“What a great dog! Good looks and a great personality! Dimitri seemed pretty laid back when meeting other dogs, and he’s a real people pleaser. He’s the kind of Dobe I’d want to take home with me. That’s the ultimate compliment I could give a dog.”

There you have it.  This fellow is looking for love and affection and will make a great companion.  If you are looking for a big pile of love and energy, this may be the one for you.

You know the sequence: apply, approval, appointment, arrive, adopt, away.  What are you waiting for?
