Can be reactive to other dogs when on leash.  However, he did live with two medium sized dogs, and he especially loves to play out in the big fields with the female Dobes.
Not good with cats.
Good with older children.

This handsome and sturdy youngster came to us from a home where his owners experienced a change in their work circumstances such that they no longer could keep him.

Here’s how they describe it; “Our careers changed drastically. When we got him, my wife was working from home and I was working in town 50 hours a week. Now I work 72 hours a week and commute 45 minutes each way. My wife is now in school five days a week. We just don’t have the time needed for him in view of these changes.  He needs a place he can run and a family that can give him the time and attention he deserves; he’s super loving and playful.”

I have to smile at his pictures, so many of them where he’s standing still and looking docile.  He’s a lover, for sure, but he is a huge puppy, less than a year old, and full of energy and goodwill.

Carol adds that he’s “full of himself as all young ones are; but at 90 lbs., he is a powerhouse of energy.  He does listen, and he will come to me when I call him from a large field - two good attributes as far as I‘m concerned.”  And I’d have to agree.  I’m just working with a new hundred-pounder, and recall is a weak spot for him.  So it’s good to hear that this one comes when called.

Observations from our volunteers:
“I had the chance to take this young boy for a walk yesterday, and he made quite an impression on me. He has a powerful, sturdy build, and although he kept the leash taut, I never felt he was pulling me. When we got a chance to take a break at one of the benches, he stood right in front of me, looking up, and then planted a few gentle kisses on my nose. He’s a typical boy in that he takes his time to sniff at every new smell his nose detects and seemed to enjoy our time exploring.”

“This is a prime specimen of a Doberman.  He’s a youthful powerhouse that doesn’t know his own strength but is quick to calm down once leadership is established.  He’s constantly observing his surroundings and doesn’t miss a thing, but he doesn’t react unless it comes close. He’s learning the watch command, and with a treat he will sit and focus on his handler. This boy has great potential for someone who is willing to spend time playing with and teaching him proper obedience and behavior.  He is a lover with the famous Doberman lean, just waiting and wanting to please.   Like all strong-willed teenage boys, he’ll blow you off if you don’t command his attention.  But by my observation, such boys become the best men if raised by good, loving, fair-minded, and fun-loving parents.”

“I am amazed at how fast this boy learns. He‘s still young and has that teenage spunk, but now walks well on a leash with a correction once in awhile, and he’s very attentive to his handler. With the right training, this boy will be amazing. He’s a great companion, energetic and quick-to-learn.  He loves to play games, he plays with the jolly ball and brings it back, and he thoroughly loves to interact with his human.”

This sounds like an outstanding fellow from everything I can see - handsome, young, strong, agreeable, responsive, and loving - not finding any faults here!  If you think he may be a match for your home, come meet him once your application is approved and you’ve made an appointment.  You may want to bring the SUV if you do!
