This handsome, young-adult Doberboy came to us via the courtesy of Rescue Angels. They brought him to us from a shelter where he had ended up after having been running loose and struck by a car. Thankfully, the injuries were not life-threatening, and although there’s still a bit of healing taking place (some road rash, a healing sore, etc.), overall he’s none the worse for it. And ultimately he’ll be much the better, because he has come to Elijah’s House on his way to a new home where he’ll be loved, nurtured, and cared for the rest of his life.
He had to wear an “Elizabethan collar” as he healed, but he adapted very quickly and was able to go out and in the doggy door, eat out of the food dish, and drink from the water dish without difficulty despite the temporary encumbrance. He played with the Jolly Balls in the playground and all-in-all didn‘t seem to mind it as some dogs do. He‘s always up to any game you want to play with him. He‘s not a barker and seems to enjoy playing at the fence lines with the other Dobes. He comes when called, even if he is way up in the driveway field. He really seems to be enjoying himself here, and he really loves the bed and blankets he has all to himself. He has a really dark red coat and now that he has had some proper nutrition, the gleam is coming back to it. His ribs were showing when he came in, so Mama Carol is having fun putting weight on him. He never refuses a meal and has it gone in minutes.
Volunteer observations:
“Speyburn had a rough time prior to his arrival at DRT, but you would never know it by the way he acts. He is super friendly and is just very relaxed around people. He really wants to be around people and will talk to you to let you know! He’s very lovable and a little bit cute/goofy. He is a favorite among us volunteers, and that is a testament to all his great qualities. He seems to be a Dobe that wants to be a helper and wants a job. Training him should be fun as he is smart and receptive. Would I adopt him if I could? That’s a definite yes!
While this fellow’s prior experiences were not positive, everything about him shows him to be a well-balanced, intelligent, engaged-and-interested Dober, eager for companionship and interaction with his human. If you think he may be a fit for your home and family, make an appointment to meet him once your application is approved, and come spend some time observing and interacting with him. There’ll be no disappointments if you do. |
