This handsome Doberboy is a calendar dog for sure! We love them all, and to us they are all beautiful, but certain ones just seem to be “model” quality and ought to have their own calendars, and Lubny (Ukraine city name) is one.
He and another Dober came to us from a broken home where the mom ended up with the dogs and the husband stopped helping financially. Mom understandably couldn’t afford their care any longer, so they were surrendered. They apparently had been living outside in kennels and were very happy to be able to run free in our large exercise fields. Both Dobers also fluff up their blankets and bedding inside, making a huge nest for themselves. They had quite a barnyard odor to them when they arrived, but good baths took care of that, and now they’re contentedly awaiting new homes.
He’s very strong and needs a little leash work, because he not only pulls but also wants to range left and right out ahead on leash. That having been said, when one of our volunteers first took him out for a long, leisurely walk, he was hesitant to go very far away from what was familiar. He walked quite slowly and cautiously, as though not knowing what was around the next turn. He gained confidence as he walked, but he doesn‘t go full-out, charge-ahead mode as some Dobers do when they‘re out walking on the huge grounds.
He loves to run and play chase, and of course just soaks it up when he’s being made of. He’s alert, engaged, quietly eager to interact, and just made to be a loyal, loving, by-your-side companion.
Volunteer comments: “Lubny strikes such a regal pose! When I first met him he was a bit shy and would only come close enough to sniff my hand. An hour later when his pictures were being, I walked by and he came running over to the fence and jumped up to greet me like he’d known me forever. I rewarded him by rubbing his head and scratching his ears, of course!”
"Lubny is a very handsome Dober - good-sized, but not massive or unmanageable. He has a sweet personality and is definitely a sensitive soul. He’s initially a bit cautious, but he’s very friendly. He has good energy and good manners. He wants to be included but doesn‘t have to be the center of attention.”
"Lubny was an absolute joy to spend time with! He loved to be pet and loved to be close to you while you were with him and is super gentle in doing so! He also loves to put his head on your leg if you are sitting down, very adorable. while walking/running around playing he has a bounce to him that just brings a smile to your face and makes the time you spend with him very enjoyable! Overall he is an amazing dog that will make a great best friend for an individual or a family and will be sure to bring smiles to many faces."
Calendars can’t show everything about a dog, of course, but it’s fair to say that Lubny’s personality and demeanor are as outstanding as his appearance. If you think your family may be a match, don’t be slow in getting your application approved and then making an appointment to meet him. I’m confident he’ll be going home with whoever gets here first! |
