We first became acquainted with Aames back in May, when another dog and he were found by a woman who took the other dog to the shelter and brought the Dober to us. In her enthusiasm on behalf of these dogs she posted this information on a community board, which the owner of the Dober subsequently read.
The owner was adamant in demanding her dog back - understandable enough on the face of it - but it was obvious the dog had not had vet care previously, perhaps due in part to the fact that there were five children in the home and a sixth on the way. Anyone with small children understands the difficulty in trying to care for a dog in addition to all that goes with caring for multiple children. And it seems in this case there may have been an attempt to find homes for the dogs prior to this.
In any case, these several months later his owner got back in touch with us, wanting to know if we would buy the Dober. Buying Dobers is not what we do, but thankfully we were able to work things out so he is at last signed over to us and is here at Elijah’s House, awaiting a new home.
Despite the challenges in his former circumstances, he’s a gorgeous fellow with a great temperament. He has a terrific personality, is very even tempered, and loves to play with our other dogs. He’s handsome, beautifully formed and very fit, bright, eager, playful, and interactive. In short, he’s what I refer to as “wash and wear” - take him home and he’s an instant part of your family - no ironing needed. :-)
If you’re serious about adopting a Dober, you can’t do better than Aames. Make an appointment to meet him once your application is approved, and make space for him in your vehicle; you won’t be going home without him.
