PROSECCO has been returned due to a divorce. He comes back to DRT with his female Dobe companion "GinGin" and they will be placed together as a bonded pair.
This beautiful bonded pair of Dobers came to us from a home where they were well-loved and cared for through the years. Sadly, that home is now split as the result of divorce, and their human has reluctantly given them up as this transition changes things in the lives of all concerned.
Prosecco was originally one of our dogs, having come to us six years ago as a pup before being adopted by this family. Volunteers’ observations regarding him from that time include the following:
“This is one smart pup and such a nice little guy! He wants to please, and he’s eager to learn!”
“One word to describe this youngster: kisser! If you don‘t like kisses, he may not be the best fit for you; but luckily I do.”
Carol adds these observations about them both:
“They are truly bonded and will not be separated; Prosecco cries for Ginger if she is taken away from his sight. They love to play tug-of-war with the large Jolly ball. Ginger usually wins. He is the more affectionate and loves attention; GinGin is more aloof (at least initially),as most females can be, and dictates what path they are taking. Prosecco always follows her lead. Both of them bark at the cat, so they are probably not going to be good in a family that has felines. Both come when called, especially at breakfast and dinnertime! As you can tell from the photos, they are classic examples of Dobermans. The are easy to handle for such big dogs. Prosecco knows to come, sit, and lie down on command. GinGin knows come, but usually sets her own agenda!"
And current observations from our volunteers:
“Prosecco and Gin Gin are a delightful pair of Dobies who are bonded together. When you arrive at their run, Prosecco is all about showing his love for people, always on the lookout for pets, hugs, and kisses. Gin Gin, on the other hand, is a bit more reserved and not as cuddly at first. The last time I took both for a walk, they leashed up very easily and walked together without any trouble. Prosecco takes the lead on the leash but doesn’t pull too hard, and Gin Gin follows along easily. If one stops to sniff something interesting, the other stops and waits or joins in. They’re a lovely middle-aged pair, but that doesn’t really show in their looks or energy. Roughhousing with each other is something they enjoy when they’re in the exercise fields together. We have two male Dobies ourselves, and we’ve found that having a pair is actually easier on their owners because they burn off a lot of energy playing with each other.”
"GinGin is reserved as females can be. Prosecco is very, very sweet."
"The dynamic duo! These two really complement each other. Watching them play together is a treat. They have so much fun while tugging on toys and just running around. Prosecco is the more affectionate of the two, or at least that was the impression I got. GinGin seemed to be more reserved at first. She came around but I felt that she would need to be around you for a while before opening up completely."
"GinGin and Prosecco are a very much a special couple. Prosecco is the outgoing goofball and GinGin is a little more reserved. Prosecco looks to her for guidance and she lets him lead the way socially. Both love attention but don‘t seem to fight each other to receive it. Extremely well mannered which can allow a family to enjoy them more without chaos. Great personalities which should allow them to do well in most family environments. A simple daily dose of love and affection and they will be best friends for life!"
"PROSECCO and GIN GIN – are a beautiful, matched pair. Both took treats gently from me and enjoyed soft scratching on their necks. Neither was pushy about the treats, with me or with each other. Initially they were not interested in lots of extra petting, but after just a few minutes Prosecco gave me kisses. I enjoyed watching them move together - they are so content in each other’s presence. This is a very classy looking pair of Dobes. Ready to settle into your home and your heart."
It sounds to me as though this is an outstanding pair of Dobers, and that each is enhanced for being with the other. You couldn’t do better than making them part of your family, so if you think they may be a match, follow the same old sequence: apply, acceptance, appointment, arrive, acquaint, away. Your heart will be filled to overflowing, and as a side bonus, you’ll be the envy of the neighborhood besides. (Just be certain you are able to care for and manage two dogs; some who think they can, find out otherwise.)
