Wow! Here’s another one of the type I like to refer to as “calendar dogs.” What a handsome fellow this is! And if you could see him in person and watch him in action, he’s every bit as terrific attitudinally and behaviorally as he is handsome - a real catch, for sure. Here’s his back story as described by his former owner: “My brother and I got him when he lost his job and couldn’t work following a car accident. Then I moved out of the house, my brother went back trucking, and we don’t have anyone to care for him the way we should. We’re truck drivers, and I have to go to my mom’s house to feed and take him out. He has to stay outside all the time. He has a big dog house, but he needs a better family that will care for him with more love, time, and attention. He is very sweet, and he loves scratching and snuggling. He also loves squeaky toys. He is a sweet boy.”A sad but not unfamiliar tale. This is a terrific Dober who is lacking only one thing, a proper home. Observations from our volunteers: “This fellow has his own internal spark, packaged in a well-muscled, energetic, and joyfully dispositioned Dobe. Whenever I walked past him, he was constantly smiling, happy tail in motion, and attentively waiting to start his next great adventure. He is not mouthy or loud, more of a quiet force. His stature is stunning, and I have no doubt he’s a power house in motion. There is nothing languid about this dog. He still has some puppy in him, and while I’m sure he will lovingly enjoy couch time with his new owner, He’s keen for active interaction, as well.”
“Wow, what a Dobe! I was immediately struck by this boy’s beautiful profile. Later on, I got a chance to spend some time with him, and I found out what a great personality he has. I had him on a leash until we got to know each other and decided to sit on one of the benches. The next thing I knew he was in my lap (or at least his head, chest, and front legs) and seemed to be happy as a lark. This boy has personality in spades. He also has a lot of energy and loves to play.” "Slane is a big boy Dobe - big physically and big personality - a beautiful, gentle giant. He does have some energy, but I think he also has some training because he does his best to show some self-restraint when he gets excited. He loves to rest his big head on your forearm when you are standing beside him. Surprisingly, he‘s not a huge puller on a leash. He‘s a great dog and wants to be with you at all times. I will be shocked if he sticks around for any meaningful amount of time!"
“My first thought when I saw Slane in the outdoor exercise area was that he is one of the prettiest males I’ve seen come through DRT. Later, I entered his indoor run to meet him and found him to be very friendly, with kisses to share. It was funny to watch him trying to figure out how to sit in my lap while I sat on the floor. He was way too much dog for too little lap! Yep, he’s a looker and a lover.”
I just don’t see how there could be a better Dober, overall; he checks all the boxes. Apply, approval, appointment, arrival, abscond. (Well, no need to sneak off; I just needed an “A” word for alliteration.) |
