This lovely senior Dobergirl came to us after her human passed suddenly and unexpectedly. She had been in her home since she was six weeks old.
How sad for her to be uprooted at this stage in life, yet she is taking it in stride and maintaining very well despite the unexpected change of circumstances. She doesn’t seem to spend time on what was. Rather, she seems to be calmly open to what is and what may be. She is full of arthritis, but Carol says she’s on meds for that and is doing fine, running and playing without difficulty.
Observations from our volunteers: “Benedictine just has a super sweet personality and apparently has been drinking from the fountain of youth, because she doesn‘t look anywhere close to eight years old! She is another Dobe that will always want to receive attention and that will give back more than she ever gets. She’s very comfortable in her own skin and seems to be acclimating quickly to her new surroundings, suggesting that she will bond easily with a new family.”
“Her name is a bit indicative of her personality, in that she has such a gentle soul. I spent time with her in the corral along with a new volunteer, and she would wander between the two of us, looking for attention. Later on, we took her for a walk up the driveway, and she impressed me with how agile she was and that she didn’t pull as so many dogs are prone to do. I mention her agility because she does have some arthritis, and when she first gets up it takes her a second or two to get moving. But once up, she moves well (just like us old folks).”
We realize that most people are looking for a young dog, but senior dogs need love too, and there’s every good reason to think this gentle lady will be a loving and stable companion for some years to come.
If you think your home may be a match, you know the sequence: apply, approval, appointment, attend, attach, advance (home). It’s as simple as that.
