All too often, we humans make life more difficult for our pets.  This handsome, happy, easygoing fellow was found abandoned on the side of a road by a young girl who took him home.  Her family kept him for a week while they tried their best to find his owner.  They posted all over the state on Facebook, and the father went to neighborhoods in a 10-mile radius, inquiring as to where the dog may have lived.  Having been unsuccessful at finding the current owner, the family gave him to a person with multiple dogs, and she saw that he came to DRT.

Unsurprisingly, he’s heart worm positive and of course will be treated now that he is with us.  As our regular readers know, the treatment that purges the heart worms, although vital, can be risky and is very costly. If you are moved to help with that additional expense, you can make a donation that will contribute quite literally to saving his life.

Carol says that he has a “super nice personality and is easy going, but because he longs for interaction, he will at times go over the fence here to play with other Dobes or come back to our building.”  This is not a runner by any means; he’s just a lover!

He’s large and handsome and relaxed and agreeable.  He has an open, trusting face, and he’s ready and willing for whatever may be on the agenda.  He simply loves to be with and to be interactive with others, human and canine.

We learned a few additional things from his turn-in form: “He does extremely well on a leash. He is an excellent walker and runner.  He jumps at first when he is excited, but he listens well and will stop when called out.  He will sit and stay on command, and he shakes.  He’s very active but will tire out and nap after a good walk.  He loves playing fetch with a ball, and it’s his favorite toy.”

Observations from our volunteers:
“I see progress with this fellow each time I visit and work with him.  He’s a little uncertain due to all the changes he’s experienced in a short time.  But despite being shy with me at first meeting, he warms quickly and walks well on a leash. I sat with him on the patio for a bit, and in pretty short order he exhibited the well-documented ‘Doberman lean‘ into my legs. He seems to be a sweet and well-mannered fellow.”

“Hearach is a very gentle and laid-back Dobe. He seems as though he has an old soul and is comfortable around people. He is easygoing and blends right in with whatever is happening.  He has a great personality and good manners.  And when you factor in his good looks, he is a total winner!”

By all indications, this is a top-notch Dober who simply needs a proper home.  Every indication is that he’ll be as good a companion as anyone could want.  If you think your family is a match and can give him a proper, forever home, make an appointment to meet him after your application is approved, and come se for yourself what a terrific fellow he is.
