Michter fills the bill for my personal favorite physical structure. That square head and blocked bridge, sober/serious expression, nicely-done ears, and a straight-line slope from shoulders to haunches - yuh - that’s what I’m talking about!
He’s a high-quality dog who has had three homes in his short life - NOT due to anything wrong or bad about him - just poor matches so far. We’re REALLY glad he’s with us now so we can find the proper match for a forever home for him. He surely deserves such.
He came to us from a shelter, where he had been surrendered. Here’s what they told us:
“The first owner was older and felt he was too much of a dog for her. The second owner had small children and also felt he was too much. The third person had an electric fence, and he kept running through it!” [I’m laughing to myself at that one - a dog of this quality and breeding has no fear of something as piddling as an electric fence. It’s not that he’s a bad fellow - far from it. It’s just that such a fence doesn’t particularly bother him. Ed.]
The shelter comment continues:
“He‘s a very nice dog, he’s just very strong, though he will listen/respond to corrections. He has great house manners but is strong on a leash. He has been fine around dogs, adults, and children. He has just been unlucky finding homes that were a good fit for his needs.”Here’s what Carol has to say about him since his arrival:
“He‘s been fine so far. We’re walking him with a slip lead. He‘s friendly both with other Dobes and people - no issues whatsoever. I have him in between the two young pups at Elijah‘s House, and he couldn‘t care less. He‘s happy lying on his bed and chewing on his knuckle bone. We are all in love with him - such a nice personality.”
And here are observations from our volunteers:
"Michter seems to be a pretty quiet guy. He enjoyed participating in a friendly game of "fence chase" with two young Dobes on the other side. As the other two were barking at Michter, he just ran back and forth in stealth mode. Visiting him in his run, he was comfortable with me coming in and sitting down beside him despite no prior introduction. I lay down with him on his bed and he quickly had his head on my chest. The pictures show his good looks, but Michter has a a great temperament and wonderful personality too, which makes him a pretty special Dobe.
"Boy, what a classic profile this guy has! Michter struck me as a gentle soul when he came right up to me in the corral, leaned in to me, and started looking at my face. He was very relaxed and self-assured the whole time we spent together. He would explore the perimeter of the corral, and when I would call him, he‘d come right over. I loved the vibrant red rust markings on his chest and feet - a very handsome fellow."
This handsome fellow is no ugly stepsister. His personality is just as terrific as his appearance. It’s a good thing I’m not close by, or I’d probably have to take him home myself!
Don’t be slow with this one - if you want him, apply; get approved; make an appointment; show up; take him home. I mean yesterday!
