This five-year-old female came from a family where her senior owner fell and broke both hip and shoulder. She‘s been in the hospital for two months with no signs of coming home, especially in light of more recent developments. The adult children have health/distance challenges of their own, so they’ve made the only sensible choice by surrendering her for placement in a new home.

She is overweight, but that is due to hypothyroidism. She is now on a daily dose to get that back to normal. She’ll probably lose about 15 lbs and look like a properly fit Doberman then. She’s a sweet, lovable girl who only wants to be close and have you pet her. She’s good with cats, dogs, and kids. Between the thyroid and living with a senior, she’s pretty much low energy (although that’s likely to improve with the thyroid med and weight loss).

She knows to sit and go lie down when told, and she’s generally just easygoing and eager to please (and to be loved on!) She’s really a big lap dog.

Observations from our volunteers:
“Sombra is one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever met at Elijah‘s House. She will happily follow you around while you work outside, and then she‘ll lie with her head on your lap when you come inside. Most of all, she wants to love her human.”

“I first met Sombra last week right after she arrived at DRT, and my first impression was “Ho hum.” WHAT a difference a week makes. She has come out of her shell, and her the inner cuddle bug came out, big time! As we first gathered outside Elijah‘s House this morning she was loose to run around with the other volunteers, and she was a bit like a ping pong ball, going from one to another for attention. She did seem to gravitate towards the two guys there. As I sat on one of the benches, she repeatedly stuck her head between my legs (standard Dober move) and soaked up all the ear rubs and back scratches I offered up.”

"Sombra reminds me of back in the day when we all had that neighborhood dog that everyone knows - just the kind of dog that wants to be around everyone but doesn‘t need to be the center of attention, super sweet and very laid back; comfortable with who she is, and always willing to accept a new friend - a great companion Dobe! She would like nothing better than to be spoiled, celebrated, and well taken care of."

This good girl is just a love bug waiting for someone to snuggle with and make of her. If you think you’re a likely candidate, follow the usual steps: approved application, appointment, visit, take home. There you have it!
