This handsome and outstanding Doberboy came to us from a very loving home. Sadly, his mom has serious allergies, and her doctor refused to give her any more allergy shots until she got rid of the dog; thus "Pooh Bear" has come to DRT as he awaits a new forever home. She had adopted him from a shelter two years ago,. He had been surrendered by a person that kept him crated 16 hours a day! As you can imagine, he’s been thrilled to be in a real home with a real family. She has two sons and unsurprisingly, he likes to go under the covers to sleep!
His ears were nicely cropped, but apparently they were never posted. He also has unusual coloration. It’s possible someone was trying to breed a dog with all one color. This is the new fad - no marking. At any rate, he appears to be fawn mixed with red - too light to be red, but more red than fawn - kind of like salt and pepper. He also has white toe nails, so there might be a mixture of a white Dobe in there with the fawn and red. In any case, the overall effect is just handsome, regardless of whatever went into the makeup, color-wise.
Currently, he’s somewhat overweight at 90 lbs., but we’re working on gradually returning him to proper weight. He’s a really sweet Dobe with a nice personality. He likes to be close to his humans, and doesn‘t even bother with the cat. As alluded to above, his call name is Pooh Bear, and it just seems to fit.
His mom wrote a lengthy tribute after she surrendered him, and some of it needs to be included here: “It‘s been so quiet around here, and I miss him so much. It just isn‘t the same when he isn‘t there to greet me when I come home or take over my bed while I‘m trying to sleep. My boys are still having a hard time, but I know this is what is best for him. He’s the best cuddler, and he gives kisses. Whenever we came home, he would wiggle his whole body and stretch his neck to lick your hand while he received scratches on his back. I took that to mean that he loves us and trusts us. He absolutely loves to make you proud. He wants to do good and to receive praise when he does good. His name grew as we learned about him. He went from Bear to Care Bear to finally Pooh Bear because his heart is so loving and giving, but rational. He barks to warn, and settles once he realizes you are safe. He also loves to sleep snuggled when he shares a bed. The number of nights that I couldn‘t move my arm because he was using it as a pillow bring the fondest memories. He will venture off, but the thought of being left behind is something he doesn‘t want. All I had to say was, "I‘m leaving" and start walking, and he would beat me to the car so as to not get left behind.
He‘s an excellent dog and deserves to enjoy life. He‘s capable of working and would thrive in an environment where he can freely walk about while helping his family. Doing so allows him to live in his purpose.
I can‘t speak his praises enough. I pray that he goes to a family that knows the power of love and redemption. Pooh Bear deserves daily kisses, hugs and treats!”
Observations from our volunteers: “When I met him, this big boy reminded me of Baloo the bear from Jungle Book. I say that because he is such a happy-go-lucky guy. When we went for a walk, he was perfectly happy to just browse about and sniff around. A lot of Dobes tend to pull when you’re walking then, but not this guy; he was happy to go at my pace. When we got back from the walk I sat with him in his run, and he plopped right down beside me with his leg laid over mine. He just wanted to be close to me, but not in a needy way at all - a perfect couch companion.”
“Overholt is a very sweet Doberman. He’s easy to walk on a leash, and enjoys smelling all the new scents along the way. When I‘m sitting with him, he is content to lie with his head on my lap. He’s the type of dog you could binge watch TV with.”
I don’t think there’s anything else needed - get approved, make an appointment, meet, take home. It’s that simple. Don’t be slow. |
