Everything about this senior Dober says to me that he’s half his stated age.  No graying at the muzzle, stomach hasn’t dropped, no fatty tumors, and his movement and activity level are those of a dog years younger.  I don’t know how it’s so, but it’s amazing to see and observe him in action.

He came to us from a home where he was well loved and cared for.  Unfortunately, there was a change in circumstances.  Here’s how his former human describes it: “We are having to relocate to another city for my job. We are being forced to rent an apartment, which does not allow dogs, and we are having to re-home all three of our dogs as a result.  We are pretty sad about it but don‘t see ourselves being able to afford another home in this area and will probably have to rent until interest rates drop again, which may be years.”

A poignant and understated lament from his former owner - how sad for all involved.

For now, we have him boarding at the vet‘s office because there’s no room at Elijah‘s House.  Carol says “It’s pitiful to note that when I leave him after visiting, I can hear him howling for me to return and take him ‘home.‘” She goes on to say that he is a “super nice, settled dog. He doesn‘t care about the cat, is good with other dogs (lived with two) and kids as well.  He has a great temperament and has the "Doberman lean" down pat!  He’s only 62 lbs and definitely needs some weight on him.  He loves to run laps.”

His former owner reports that he was “trained at one year by a police K9 specialist; it was a six-week, in-house training.  He knows to sit, lie down, and stay on command.  He has a high, activity level and runs laps in our large backyard.  He loves to fetch a ball and to play with stuffed toys.”

Observations from our volunteers:
“When Carol asked me to pick up Lucah at the vet’s for some play time at DRT (he’s currently being boarded at the vet’s), I wasn’t sure what to expect. What a pleasant surprise he was! This is supposed to be a senior Dobe, but you’d never tell it by how he jumped in the back of my SUV! He doesn’t look like a senior either. We had him in the playground as another volunteer and I were taking down tent tops. He spent the time exploring and checking in with us periodically to get his share of our attention. By all observations, he’s a calm and loving dog.”

“Lucah has somehow found the fountain of youth, because I just don’t believe that he is really 10 years old. He looks great, is super friendly, and is very active. When I say active, I don’t mean active for his age, but that he literally is curious - an explorer and a Dobe that can easily keep up and perhaps even set the pace.”

This is really a remarkable fellow, and I’d take him home myself if I could.  You, however, maybe able to.  Just make an appointment to meet him once your application is approved.  Come meet, interact with, and observe him in action.  I have no doubt you will be just as amazed as we are by him.
