Mabel is a 1 1/2 year old 52 lb spayed female. Her DNA test says she’s half Doberman and half Mastiff. Due to her size and build, she presents much more like a Doberman in size and a Mastiff in coloring. Mabel is playful, very smart, sweet, snuggly, protective, strong, and loves to play fetch and run! She’s still very playful like a puppy but she’s not destructive in any way. She’s house trained and knows all the commands: sit, down, place, stay, heel, come, drop it, and leave it. She’s very interested in learning and wants to please. She would be a good candidate for agility training. It’s fun to watch her run because she’s fast and she gets such joy doing it.
She’s crate trained and awesome in the house. She’s calm inside, and is happy either taking a nap on her bed or chewing on a toy. She’s free in the house at night and either sleeps in her crate with the door open, or on her bed. When her teenage human is home visiting, she loves to sleep in the bed with her.
Mabel loves to go for walks, but she can be leash reactive. When no other dogs are around, she’s great about heeling and walking in a calm manner. When another dog is around, she forgets everything she knows. She’s been working with a trainer who thinks she can be trained out of this, but it’s impossible for me since lives in a place where she can’t practice these things without being triggered,. She would obviously do much better with a fenced yard which I do not have for her. She currently lives in an apartment in the city and so is constantly on a leash to be outside for anything. It’s also hard to get her the exercise she needs. When she has boarded out in the country, there has been no problem.
She loves to follow you around and also to chill out and bask in the sun. She’s very loyal, and protective of her human “mom”. She stopped a break-in a couple of months ago at her apartment, and now when with her mom in the neighborhood, she is on high alert looking for danger. She is not like that when she stays in the country. There, she alerts them to strangers, but doesn’t feel the need to do more than that. She has had a few altercations, so is not currently playing with other dogs, but she has not ever bitten anyone, dog or human. She also hasn’t been bothered by the dogs that come and go where she‘s staying in the country. She hasn’t been interested in the neighbors’ cats who she‘s seen outside most days the past year, but would love to chase a squirrel! She’s microchipped, UPTD on all vaccinations, heart worm negative, and has health insurance, which is transferable. Mabel really is an amazing and special dog. She’s been well loved and someone in the right environment for her, will be lucky to have her. She is loved, and I only want what is best for Mabel.
