This nicely formed, sturdy-looking fellow came to us via a Rescue Angel from a group where she had been fostering him.  He had arrived there with a bacterial infection that almost looked like he had been hit with buckshot. Thankfully, a round of antibiotics cleared that up in short order, and he now has a beautiful black coat.  Being here at Elijah‘s House and on quality food, that beautiful coat will soon begin to shine again.

Carol says he’s a “sweet, sweet dog with lots of love to give.  He needs a little leash work and jumping help, but he’s not out of control as some young ‘uns are. He wants to please and will be very easy to train.”

Volunteer observations:
“Benriach is a "wow" Doberman for me.  He is a good-sized male with room to fill out.  He has a great temperament and is comfortable around new people.  When I brought another male by his exercise field, he didn‘t seem to be overly concerned - no barking at the other dog or  elevation in energy. I can‘t guarantee that will always be the case but it was certainly a good sign. He is very sweet and wants to give kisses. When I was sitting down on the bench, he wanted to put his big paws on my shoulders so he could give my face a thorough cleaning!  Some adopters don‘t want that, so he may need a little redirection on that. The good news is that I think he is attentive and a pleaser who will be a willing participant in training.”

“Benriach reminded me so much of another Dobe who was recently adopted,  that I asked Carol if he’d been returned. That wasn’t the case; they just look and act somewhat alike. I took him from the kennel to Ivory’s Coast, and he was so excited he kept jumping up to give me hugs and kisses. Later on, I took him for a walk, and it went pretty well. He could benefit from additional leash training though. On the way back to Elijah‘s House, he started trying to play with and bite the leash as young pups do. He’s a fun loving Dobe, for sure.”

“At meeting Benriach and my first touch of him, I liked what I felt; he feels solid under your hand. He then followed me around the field, interested to see what I was doing, and enjoyed being in the company of a human.  Nice fella.”

No idea what this fellow’s back story is, other than some apparent neglect and the need for a proper home.  If you think yours may be the one, make an appointment to meet him as soon as your application is approved, and come take a look.  I‘m confident you won‘t be disappointed, if you do.
