This lovely senior Dobergirl was surrendered by the caregiver of a man who was ill and approaching death. The man was concerned that his adult children, who didn’t like the dog, would have her euthanized following his passing, and he was determined to see that she was safe and placed in a new home. He has since passed, but his beloved dog is indeed safe with us as she awaits a new home.
She has had formal obedience classes, she walks well on long or short leashes and responds to short pulse commands with leash. She sits, shakes, and barks to count numbers, an unusual trick. She loves to catch tennis balls, playing with squeaky toys, and taking walks in the neighborhood on leash. She’s very active and played regularly with children. She seems to be very well mannered, all around.
Volunteer observations: “Bourbon is a visually striking and robust girl. You would never guess she is a senior Doberman. As they say, there’s a lot of gas left in her tank! When I sat with her in the corral, she was attentive to me and curious as to what was going on around us. When I brought out a few treats, she was quite excited but sat on command and wolfed them down without taking my fingers along with them. We later went for a walk and she was great on the leash.”
"Bourbon has somehow found the fountain of youth! Despite all the Dobermans I have run across while volunteering at DRT, I‘ve never met a 9½ year old with as much energy. Don‘t get me wrong, she isn‘t an out of control puppy, but she is certainly up for any adventure and can likely keep up with all but the most elite of active lifestyles. She has a wonderful personality and is very likeable - an easy dog to bond with and an absolute delight."
This is a lovely senior Dober who will make an excellent companion and who should blend into a new family without difficulty. Make an appointment to meet her after your application is approved, and come get acquainted. There will be no disappointments. |
