Balvenie is a big, gentle, loving Dobergirl with a heart as large as her size. Age-wise, she’s not yet quite an adult, but she’s easy to handle, walks well on leash (with mild pulling), and is just an all-around terrific, easygoing companion. In an email to me, Carol wrote “REALLY NICE DOBE.” She loves playing with and chewing on bones, and despite her youthful age, is just a laid back girl.
She came to us from a home where the husband’s job change resulted in his having to travel most weeks, and his good wife was not able to care for the dogs and the kids, both. Thankfully, she’s with us now as she awaits a new home, and she’s a welcome guest, indeed.
Observations from our volunteers:
“Balvenie doesn’t have the typical appearance of an “athletic Dobe.” she could probably use a 15-to-20 pound “haircut.” When I entered her exercise field among other volunteers, her attention went immediately to me and her curiosity peaked. She came right over in a very gentle way, leaned on me, gave me a nudge, began to lick my hand, and gave me her head for a good scratch. She’s a very curious girl and a very sweet and gentle dog. It’s apparent she connects very well and quickly with humans. She’ll need some dietary changes and lots of good long walks, but she has a wonderful temperament and is truly a sweetheart.”
“Balvenie is a treasure. She is friendly and comfortable when introduced. She beams with a smile and just loves to be around people. It only take moments to determine that she is a definite keeper! Don‘t let her stocky frame fool you; as she has plenty of energy and wants to be active. And her easygoing disposition makes her a prize all around.”
“This girl is a real sweetheart! After spending time with her, I’m pretty sure she’ll stick as close to you as she can, especially on the couch or bed. While in the driveway field, she would explore a little bit but never very far from me. As soon as she’d get back to me, she’d bury her head in my lap and let me rub her ears. She’d also hop onto my lap with two feet and give me kisses. ‘Love bug’ pretty well sums up this girl’s personality.”
“Balvenie is a sweet Dobie girl who wants every bit of your attention. She is very friendly and certainly lights up when you come to see her. She exudes happiness when she knows she has 100% of your attention. Frequent interaction is a must for this princess, but she will give back the love twofold. She is a follower and will always be close by. Despite carrying a few extra pounds, she has good energy and is up for any adventure you put in front of her. Overall, Balvenie is just a really nice dog!”
