What a flawless little beauty this Dobergirl is. She’s a bit on the thin side at the moment, but she’s perfectly formed and has a terrific personality besides.
She’s the castoff of a divorced home, where the wife told the husband she was going to take the dog to a shelter if he didn’t do something with her. Thankfully, he saw that she found her way to Elijah’s House, and while she’s a bit off balance and uncertain at the moment, she’s well on her way to being an outstanding lifetime companion for the family fortunate enough to adopt her.
Volunteer observations: “Getting acquainted with Ladyburn took a bit. I could tell she is scared or nervous from the changes she’s been through. I sat with her in an outside run, and for some time she wouldn’t get too close to me. Eventually she came close enough to sniff me, and I was able to pet her gently. Then I decided to take her for a walk around DRT and I have to tell you, she was one of the best walkers I’ve encountered. She walked at my pace and never pulled. I stopped after 10 minutes and called to her, and she came walking back to me and seemed comfortable with me from that point on. She’s a petite girl and could stand to put on 5-10 pounds. One other thing I noticed as we walked, the tips of her ears just about touch as she was exploring the new sights and smells.”
“Ladyburn is the newest addition to DRT and a petite Dober-princess. She was a little resistant to engage with when I tried to introduce myself, but it worked out once Carol showed her the necessary body language that I was a good guy. Once we got past that (which took about 30 seconds with Carol), we were fast friends. I took her for a walk, and it was as though we had been buddies for a long time. She had no hesitancy to be with me from that point forward and started to show signs of playfulness. It is also clear she has some experience on leash, as she didn‘t pull and just enjoyed the walk. I suspect her new family won‘t ever have to look very far for her, as she will likely be at their side whenever possible!”
This lovely little lady may be a slight bit tenuous at the moment, but she very clearly will gain confidence with the love and nurture in her new home. If you think she may be a match for you, make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved. Come meet her, give her a chance to interact, and you’ll quickly see what a lovely girl she is and what a terrific companion she’ll make for many years to come. |
