This handsome, sober-faced Doberteen came to us from a home where he had become flea infested, and his owners didn’t know how or what to do.
Many years ago, an acquaintance had a dog with fleas so out of control, they had taken over the house. I could actually see them scurrying around on the bare hardwood floor. Needless to say, my visits were brief and I tried to stay at the door when I did have to stop by.
While my sympathy is with the surrendering family for wanting the problem to be over, it’s an easy fix and a mystery as to why they were unable or unwilling to solve the problem. I’m guessing, as happens with so many of those who take home a cute, cuddly, wiggly puppy, they had not realized how much work it is to properly raise a dog to adulthood and were at their wits’ end, with the fleas being what pushed them over the edge.
In any case, he’s with us now, the fleas have been treated and are gone, he’s on antibiotics for the secondary skin infection from the scratching and biting he‘s done to try and relieve the former itch, and he’s looking and feeling better than he has in months. Now he simply awaits a proper, forever home with a family who can finish his training while they provide the love, nurture, and care every dog deserves.
Volunteer observations: “We have had a run of really nice red Dobes and Yamazaki is no exception. He is friendly and welcoming from the start. Confident, but not stubborn. Instead, he is fairly laid back in temperament. He has that Doberman working mentality where he is looking to be a helper when in the field together. He’s an easy dog to "hang" with, and he really wants to be your loyal companion. He is young and has a beautiful mahogany coloring that will only get more attractive as he recovers from his flea infestation. Someone is going to get a best friend for a long time with Yamazaki!”
“This red Dobe is truly a gentle soul! During the time I spent with him in the corral, he never barked, while several of the other dogs in their exercise runs in the playground were barking up a storm. He also approached me in a relaxed and comfortable manner. As I was scratching his ears, he’d look up at me with an appreciative look on his face and clearly enjoyed my scratches and kisses.”
Here’s a young one, nearly through the puppy stage, ready for loving guidance as he finishes maturing into a handsome, loyal, adult companion. If you think he may be a match for your home, make an appointment to meet him once your application is approved, and come meet him in person. You’ll only be more impressed with him then, if you do. |
