This large, good ole boy is a gentle fellow and low-maintenance companion. He came to us from a home where his mom had to move into a memory care facility sadness all the way around but the right thing for him under the circumstances.
He‘s been taken care of health-wise and kept on preventative. He walks nicely on a leash. Overall, he’s a quiet, easygoing fellow - very agreeable, moderately active - just good company.
He’s obedient and knows to sit, stay, “lay” down, and “outside” on command. He likes to play fetch with a ball, but his mom says he never really showed interest in other toys. All the same, as you can see from his pictures, he’s having a good time with toys here at Elijah’s House! Carol shares this observation regarding toys: “He’s quite the trickster when it comes to playing with stuffed toys. He will flip it up in the air backwards and then turn around to try to catch it once it is up in the air (on its way down).” And the daughter of his mom says “He is very sweet and cuddly. He is playful and loves to be outside.”
Volunteer observations: “My first encounter with Glenfarclas was from about 20 feet away. What I saw was a dog that was obviously distressed because of the recent upheaval in his life. He was looking at Carol and Kelly for reassurance that things were going to be okay. Later in the day, I was in the corral with him, and he initially would only come to within five feet of me. When I got up to go inside to get some treats, he walked over to the gate and allowed me to gently pet his head. I came back with the treats and he sniffed them, but that was it. I sat down, and he was still reluctant to come close to me. Carol came in and sat down next to me, and he was all over her. I guess he finally figured out that I was okay, and he let me take over the gentle petting and ear rubs. After a few minutes of this, I stopped petting him and his nose popped up under my arm as if to say, “Keep going, I like this.” Despite his understandable, initial hesitancy, it quickly became apparent that he is a real sweetheart, and I hope he finds a new family soon to give him the home he so richly deserves.”
The short of it is, this is just a sweet, senior Dober who has lost his loving home and mom and dearly wants the comfort and predictability of a loving home once more. If you think yours may be the one, make an appointment to meet him once your application is approved, and come spend a little time getting to know him. You’ll be glad you did.
