BALMENACH and LAGAVULIN are a bonded pair and will not be placed separately.
These wonderful, bonded, senior Dobermans perfectly compliment one another and must go together to a new home. They came to us from a woman whose only comment was that she “cannot take care of them properly anymore. They don‘t get the attention they deserve and need to be in a loving and caring environment.” Additionally, we know that they were house dogs up until three years ago, when they were relegated to a building outside where they have lived since, with minimal to no vet care.
That’s all we know about their past. Upon arrival, we learned that Balmenach has heartworm, so there’s that highly expensive and risky treatment required to save his life. As we always do, we ask for any who read this and are moved to help save a Dober life to make a donation earmarked for heart worm treatment. Over the years, many of you have responded to this appeal, and numerous dogs are alive today in part because of your willingness to act on their behalf. Thank you to all past and future donors.
These two are happy and at ease with one another. They love to be together, whether it’s playing or just lying around. And of course they’re happy to be with their human and loved to be made of, too. That having been said, they crave human attention and will nudge each other out of the way in their attempts to hog the spotlight!
Volunteer observations: “Lagavulin and Balmenach are just a sweet, bonded pair. These two have been through a lot together and you can just see the genuine love between them as they help each other adjust to new surroundings. Some bonded pairs tend to compete for attention, but these two just seem happy to be together. Don‘t get me wrong, they both love attention but they seem comfortable waiting their turn for human loving. Both are super nice, well-mannered, and friendly dogs, and they bring a lot of joy with them.”
“I was sitting on the patio with some other volunteers, and Balmenach came over to me and let me pet him. He really seems to crave attention! This dog is very sweet and friendly and loves to be around people.”
“The thing that impressed me the most during my brief visit with these two was just how social and active they are. They both just want to be close to you and get some attention. There were five of us in the playground, and they went from one person to the next to get and give some loving. Both of them are real sweethearts!”
We realize that senior Dobers can be hard to place. People understandably want dogs to last for as long a time as possible, but older dogs need love too, and some of you have hearts large enough to embrace seniors for the years they have remaining.
These two have a great deal of love and companionship to offer for years to come yet. If your heart responds to them, make an appointment to meet them once your application is approved, and come spend some time observing and interacting with them. It will be a blessing all around, if you do.
