This picture-perfect, young representative of our favorite breed came to us from a home where his human had to move and take on the care of an elderly parent. That, in combination with work-related travel, left little time for the care, exercise, and attention he needed. As a result, he has come to Elijah’s House as he awaits a new family who will make him part of their home and lives going forward.
His former owner tells us that he “loves bananas, apples and carrots. (He’s a smacker!) He did not get them often but when he did it was a special day for him. He loves human contact and if he had his way, he’d prefer someone who either stays at home or that can to take him everywhere they go! He loves to play catch (using a hardball which he’ll destroy if left alone with it!), and he 100% loves to play fetch and to play-wrestle with his canine buddies. And his favorite toys are balls and bones. He‘s had training and knows to sit, stay, down, wait, no, come, and (be) easy on command, but his leash manners still could use some work."
Volunteer observations: “Glenlivet is another wonderful male with a beautiful darker coloring to his coat. He is friendly and can be a bit of a talker. He seems to enjoy toys, especially the big Jolly Ball. He is quick to bring toys to you, hoping to convince you that it is playtime. When you visit him, he gets excited and looks for the first toy that he can drop in your lap. I love his personality and I think he will definitely be a ‘Velcro Dobe."
"What a lovable bundle of energy! This guy loves to show his affection as soon as you get near him. He wanted to jump up on my chest as soon as I met him and periodically through the time I spent with him. (Most folks don’t like a dog to jump up, and I can appreciate that. He can be trained not to if his new owner chooses.) We started playing with one of the Jolly Balls, and he loves playing tug of war. Once I got it away from him, I started throwing it and he’d bring it back every time and give it to me so I could throw it again. I’m pretty sure he could have gone on playing all afternoon, not me though!”
I don’t think you could do any better than this handsome young fellow. Make an appointment to meet him once your application is approved, and don’t delay in getting here. I’m confident he’ll go home with the first family that meets him. |
