This is an interesting case. This handsome young fellow was surrendered by his owner due to the apparent fact that the human and dog just didn’t connect. It’s a rare circumstance, but this dog seems to prefer the company of others to that of his former owner.
I’ve known several dogs over the years that connected with me very strongly, even though they belonged to someone else, so this is not unknown to me, but it is unusual. I have no knowledge of the former owner, and he did sound as though he’d like to have connected with the dog, but the dog clearly sensed something else and the two just never became bonded. In fact, when he was left with friends while the owner was traveling, the dog didn’t want to go home with his owner when he returned to pick him up!
Clearly it’s a good thing he’s at Elijah’s House for now as he awaits a new home where there is a forever bond. In the meantime, he’s having fun running around loose in the fields, and he REALLY loves his big doggy beds and happily plops himself on the top of them. He’s quiet and reserved and has a very sweet temperament. It seems as though he’s just soaking up the benefits of his temporary home, and it’s also obvious he’ll be very happy in a home where there is indeed a connection with his family.
He’s had formal obedience training, loves to “play ball,” and his favorite things are balls and bones. he also totally loves to play with the other dogs, including the males.
Volunteer comments: “Chernihiv is clearly a boy that is confident and likes to meet new people. If he was a person, you’d describe him as being one of those people who never met a stranger. He won’t hesitate to come up to you and check you out. I guess I passed muster, because he returned to get me to pet him after each trip around the inside perimeter of the corral as he checked out what was going on around us. He’s handsome and has a winning personality.”
"Chernihiv can‘t get much better looking! He seems to love to meet new people and will jump up on the gate to say "Hello" and to get your attention. He also seems to have a fun-loving personality and gives the impression of being up for any adventure."
We just can’t find any fault with this fellow, and we’re convinced you won’t either, so make an appointment to meet him once your application is approved. Don’t be slow though. He won’t be with us long.
