(Since early in the war with Ukraine, DRT has been using Ukrainian city names to support the war effort and the fight for freedom.)

This poor little fellow came from a shelter where he had been held since having been picked up as a stray. He’s emaciated and is the most underweight Dober of this age I’ve seen.   It appears he had been wearing a heavy collar as he has some incidental hair loss underneath on his neck below his chin.  He had intestinal worms, bad ear infections in both ears, and his coat was covered in feces.  Thankfully all that has been resolved now that he’s with us.

There’s no way of knowing what his previous circumstances were or how he came to be a stray, but it’s a profound blessing for him that he is now with us, where he is receiving plenty of love, care the needed medical attention, and hearty food for bringing him up to a proper weight.

When he arrived, we was not-surprisingly subdued. He spent much of his time standing still and shivering despite our having put TWO coats on him! (Learning of his shivering and wearing the two oversized coats, one of our adopters and supporters sent two brand new coats for him in his size.  He’s a happy boy now!)

In the last day or so he has become more animated and seems to have “come alive,” so to speak, as he adapts to the safety and nurturing support he is receiving here at DRT. We’re just glad he was rescued before things got any worse for him, and we look forward to him being adopted into a truly loving, nurturing family. He’s really just a kid still, and once in a loving home the past will fade away and he’ll be living happily in his new reality for many years to come.

Volunteer comments:
“Rovensky was quite playful when he met Carol’s Dobe in the corral, and he wasn’t at all intimidated by the other one’s larger stature. To the contrary, he was initiating their play. While he’ll likely always be on the small side, once Carol works her magic and packs 20-30 pounds on him, his handsome appearance will match his sweet personality.”

If you’re looking for a 3/4-size Dober lap dog (once he‘s filled out), this one may be a match for you. Despite his significantly underweight condition at the moment, he’s a handsome fellow with a loving, gently spirit. Make an appointment to meet him once your application is approved, and come see for yourself what an excellent Dober he is. I know you won’t be disappointed.
