This beautiful little Dobergirl (Ukraine city name) is just full of energy, goodwill, and playful mischief. She came to us from a home where the 8-year-old boy had been plaguing her over time. She finally had her fill and nipped him. His much-deserved correction by her resulted in her being surrendered, and that’s probably a good thing in the long run. If a boy can’t be trained, something has to change, and usually people aren’t giving up their kids to keep their dogs (although some might be tempted!)
So she’s with us now as we await a home where she will be nurtured and loved rather than teased beyond reason. Not surprisingly, she was shy and standoffish at first, but she’s coming along fine, and as we interact with her and get to know her a bit, it’s apparent this is a good girl who just wants to be loved and treated fairly.
In fact, when our volunteer picked her up at the shelter for the drive back to Elijah’s House, she started in the back seat, but before long she kissed the back of his head and decided she‘d be the passenger up front along with him. Having climbed into the front, she rode along contentedly, just sitting on the passenger seat next to him.
With us, she plays well with other dogs and gets along with everyone, although she does seem to favor our female volunteers, initially - warms right up to the fellows after a bit. (Note the description of her car ride with a male volunteer!) She just seems happy to be where she’s treated fairly by all, and she’s easy for us to work with and care for.
Volunteer comments: “Stryi was nervous at first when we first met, but as soon as we got in the car she was fine. I’d given her free reign to move about, and she pretty quickly decided to ride up front with me. She moved to the back a couple of times but came right back to the front each time. She rode well and never tried to get into my lap. She seemed to like me talking to her and rubbing her head.”
“Stryi is a super cute female. She loves to run, and it puts a smile on your face when you see her in full stride having a great time! She can be very playful. She is a little hesitant to approach upon introduction, but when I sat down she was able to get comfortable enough to come see me. The next thing I know she is nudging me to keep petting her whenever I try and stop!”
It seems apparent to us that this is a lovely young Dober who caught a bad break with a tormenting youngster and who is an excellent companion and play mate in every way. If you think she may be a match for your family, make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved, and come spend some time observing and interacting with her. We think you’ll be just as impressed with her as we are. |
