Good with older children.

Kharkiv (Ukraine city name) was found as a stray and subsequently came to us courtesy of a Rescue Angel.  Her appearance was good, so it didn’t seem as though she’d been on her own for too long, thankfully.  Unfortunately, she did have both intestinal and heart worms.  The intestinal worms are now gone, and the heart worms will be soon.

As you know, the heart worm treatment is both risky and very costly.  We’ll greatly appreciate any contributions you may make toward that additional, significant expense as we complete her restoration and preparation for adoption.

Her coat is lustrous, she’s attentive, engaging, interested, and confident.  She has a cheerful, easygoing disposition, and shows every indication of being a wonderful companion.

Volunteer comments:
“This gal is a real natural beauty. Easy temperament and pleasant disposition.”

“Kharkiv is a striking black female with that extra bit of cuteness that a natural tail can provide. She is sturdy but definitely not fat. She was very friendly as I introduced myself to her with no familiar faces around and had no issues.  She seems comfortable in her own skin. Like many others, she doesn‘t stray far and seems to always keep an eye on what you’re doing when together in a field.  In the time that I spent with Kharkiv, everything I observed was positive.”

"Kharkiv gives hugs when you sit on the ground with her.  She would also lay her head on my shoulder and in my lap."

"If only this girl could talk, I’m sure it would be a most interesting tale, possibly a sad one. She wears the evidence of encounters from past injuries. Whatever the cause, it doesn’t appear to have affected her gentle personality. This may sound odd that it made such an impression on me, but this is the most well mannered dog I’ve ever walked! I’m not a terribly fast walker and the whole time we walked up the driveway at DRT her head was beside my left leg and the leash was loose and drooping. It made me wonder if she had been trained to do this, but whatever it was noticeable. When we stopped at the entrance to turn around and I bent down to pet her and she in turn gave me a couple of gentle kisses.

This lovely middle-aged girl gives every indication of being an outstanding, low-maintenance companion for years to come.  If she seems like a fit for your family, make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved, and come see for yourself what a catch she is.
