You’d never know from her pictures or watching her play that this is a senior Dober. She’s attractive, engaged, and eager to be interactive with her human.
Skole (Ukrainian city name) came to us from an owner who only had her a year and kept her living outside the whole time. Her previous owner had given her away to this stranger when he was moving into an apartment. (At least with him she had lived inside.) Strange stuff, but in the end, good for the dog, because now she will be placed in a proper home with a family who will love her and treat her as she deserves.
She has a funny, wide-stance gait. Radiographs show her hips to be fine, although her back shows some arthritis and bridging. That having been said, she runs and plays without difficulty and is ready for any adventure you put forth to her. She even has this cute trick of being able to sit on her hind legs and do "double high fives" -- that takes balance! Despite the circumstances of her past, she has a great personality and really is an outstanding senior who loves to snuggle up in her comfy bed and fluffy blankets. And after having lived outside, it’s very apparent that she’s delighted to be inside with A/C running and watching the TV!
Volunteer comments: “Skole is a very carefree dog. She is perfectly content either strolling around by herself or being with people. When I played with her, she picked her favorite toy and would not give it up to anyone, playfully keeping it just out of reach (thus, all the pics of her with a toy in her mouth!). She was good on her walk, and she got along fine with the other dog we had walking with her.”
"Skole has a quiet and affectionate demeanor and likes to have her humans in close proximity. When I spent time with her in the Corral this weekend, she liked to bury her head in my lap as I rubbed her ears. She also has this cute trick she’ll do to earn a treat. She sits down and raises up with both front feet in the air as if she’s going to give you five, or her case I guess it’s technically giving you eight."
“When I met Skole I found her to be full of surprises. She seemed a little bewildered – and who wouldn’t be when you’ve been tossed around by previous owners. And yet she didn’t show any fear upon meeting me. But the biggest surprise was her strength. Don’t be fooled by her age or size or her slightly tilted head and odd stance, this girl is physically strong. And she also had some pretty strong opinions about where she wanted to walk! Skole is not going to let some bad luck keep her from going after life.”
“This pretty girl could have been named Miss Kitty after the character on Gunsmoke (I know I’m dating myself) because of the cute beauty mark on the side of her face. She has a sweet and infectious personality. When I was spending time with her in the playground, she would go off and explore for a minute and then come back to check on me and get a few kind words and a pat on the head. When she smiles (which is frequent) you’ll notice her beautiful white teeth.”
"I really enjoyed spending time with Skole and trying to figure out her personality. She is more of a care free dog and liked taking the toys and hanging out more on her own instead of playing fetch but would come up to people as she pleased. On occasion she would come out of her shell a bit and play fetch though. She was still very gentle when people would be around her and her toy and would not be possessive at all when that toy was taken from her to play fetch again. Overall she is a sweetheart with a more keep to herself personality when it comes to playing outside. I did not have the pleasure of sitting down with her to see what she was like one on one."
From everything we’ve seen in her time with us, this is a terrific senior Dober who is just happy to be treated well and loved. If you think she may be a fit for your home and family, make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved, and come see for yourself what a great gal she is. |
