With yet another name nod to the people of Ukraine, Azovstal came to us by the courtesy of Rescue Angels who brought him to us from a rescue that was being forced to close. In addition to the other issues contributing to their closing, he‘s been crated during his entire time with them. ‘Nuff said.

In his brief time with us, he hasn’t barked at any dogs and is quite happy overall.  That having been said, he‘s a little hesitant and uncertain, but I guess I would be too if I’d been confined for most of my life and never really had the chance to run free and explore.

Not surprisingly he‘s very strong on a leash, and he will “gate charge” in his excitement about actually being let outside.  He does listen to "Easy" but needs some leash work.  He is sweet, kind, non-confrontational, and overall good - just a little hesitant as he comes to understand the new-to-him kindness and freedom.  And the initial uncertainty he exhibited early on is fading away the longer he is free from his previous circumstances.

Volunteer comments:
“Azovstal is a smaller male but his looks really catch your eye.  At this point, he is a bit shy as he is adjusting to his new surroundings.  He is very similar to other Dobers that have come through DRT in that he wants to give and receive attention but initially struggles with allowing himself to trust his new human friends.  He has good energy and curiosity without being overwhelming or difficult to handle.”

I can’t recall when we’ve had a Dober that was shut in as much and as long as this one.  It’s almost as though he’s being reborn as he now is experiencing all that life as it should be offers.  If you think this gentle fellow may be a fit for your home and family, make an appointment to meet him as soon as your application is approved and come see for yourself what this fellow is like.  He’s sure to speak to you hearts as he does to ours, if you do.
