At one year of age, this precious little Dobergirl is still a pup. But already she’s experienced more misery than any dog should go through in a lifetime.

Some mindless person cut off her ears with a razor blade or scissors without benefit of anesthesia; she’s been passed around several times via ads on the internet; and what ought to be her shiny red coat is currently almost nonexistent due to demodex mange. The good news is, with proper care and treatment, her coat will grow back, and before too long she’ll be the visual beauty that already is evident in her personality.

Yes, despite all she’s been through, she’s a sweet, engaged, playful, loving girl who very much appreciates the good care, love, and nurture she’s receiving with us. There’s no doubt she’ll make an excellent and appreciative companion in a new and proper home.

Being a puppy, she’s still full of puppy mischievousness and silliness, and she’s sure to bring a smile to anyone who sees her at play!  She loves to play with plush toys and she doesn‘t rip them up.  When she‘s by herself, you can hear her tossing them around and playing with them to amuse herself.  She has a happy, jubilant personality in spite of her terrible past.

Volunteer comments:
“I just love Makivka!  When a dog has lost most of its hair and still comes across as super cute, you know she has an irresistible personality.  All the Dobers get a little anxious when meeting new people, and Makivka channels that anxiety by playfully running around you.  She gets closer as familiarity builds.  She wants to play and has a way of pulling you in to her games.  You find yourself wanting to watch and spend time with her as she unavoidably brings a smile to your face.  When her hair grows back, she will be a stunner in both looks and personality!”

It’s remarkable to me how, despite the temporary hair loss and the butcher job on her ears, she’s still really a very pretty girl who presents in a remarkably positive manner.  She has the deep, rich, warm brown eyes that seem to let you look right into her soul.  What a resilient survivor she is, and what a blessing she’ll be for the family that embraces her.

If your heart is drawn to this lovely young Dober (another one we‘ve named in honor of Ukraine), make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved, and come see for yourself what a doll she is. I’m guessing if you do, she‘ll be bringing smiles to your heart and face for many years to come.
