BONDED PAIR with BUCHA, her Dober Son

You know the old saying that the sum is greater than the parts?  Well, when it comes to this mother-son pair, the “parts” are superior, and the two of them together are right off the charts.

They came to us together and are being offered as a bonded pair.  Their previous human was evicted from her rental when the landlord discovered she had Dobermans.  As a result, she’s living with a friend for the time being.  Between them, they have five children and three Dobers, so something had to give.  Thankfully these two have come to Elijah’s House, where they are being very well cared for, exercised regularly, and worked with as they await a new home together.

As with almost all of our current Dobers, we have christened them with names of Ukrainian cities as we continue to honor the brave Ukrainian people in this small way.  (May their cause be triumphant.)

With all the change that’s been going on their lives, both could use some additional socialization and training, the tall, dark, and handsome pup, Bucha, especially.  He’s uncertain and will bark with false bravado until a leash is on him, then he wants to walk ahead in a zigzag manner.  He is still a young one, after all, and there’s really no surprise that he needs some guidance from an understanding and capable owner.    At this stage, he feels more confident when his mom is nearby (his favorite game is playing "chase" with her), and they clearly make a team, both visually and emotionally.  All that having been said, he’s a thoroughly handsome, large, well-formed fellow whose quiet presence will command respect from all he meets.

His mom’s name (Daryna) means "God‘s gift," in Ukrainian, and as we see it, both these lovely Dobers are a gift from God.  As I always say, dogs are the best people.  You can see from her pictures what a beauty she is, and she has a personality to match.  She loves her boy, and they love being together.  Cheese is her favorite treat (sparingly, please).  She loves attention and rubs, loves to play, and loves to go for rides.  Oh, and BOTH dogs will happily sleep in bed with you if allowed.  Think about that one!

Volunteer comments:
“What a striking beauty!  Daryna’s unique coloring and beautiful profile immediately catches  your attention.  I had the opportunity to take her for a long walk,  and she thoroughly enjoyed herself.  I stopped a few times and called her back to me, and she responded well.  She appeared to enjoy my petting her but was just as eager to see what was around the next bend on the trail.”

“Beautiful Daryna is larger than most of the females I‘ve seen, and at first glance I assumed she was a male.  With size comes strength, and she can be a bit of a handful on a leash as in her eagerness she tends to pull a bit, but a little additional training will resolve that.  She’s well finished every other way, was calm and confident when I was introduced to her, is very loving, and enthusiastically gives kisses.  She is young but has a maturity about her that exceeds her years.”

“BUCHA is an absolute stunner and well put together.  With his large size, it’s hard to believe he’s only 9 months old.  He dotes on his mom and doesn’t want to be apart from her.  Despite his youth, I didn‘t get that bull-in-a-china-shop feeling with him.  He gave no sense of struggling to contain his energy like some young Dobers and behaved with a maturity beyond his age.  He will bark a bit when meeting strangers, but that will improve as he gains confidence in his surroundings.  His playful and goofy side stands out once he’s at ease.  I can‘t wait to spend more time with him!”

As I suggested at the beginning, while each of these dogs is outstanding in its own right, the pair together should fulfill any Dober lover’s dreams for many years to come.  If you think your family and home are a fit for these two, make an appointment to meet them as soon as your application has been approved.  While it usually takes a tiny bit longer to place two Dobers together, I can’t imagine these two will be around very long.  I know if I could take them they’d be gone already!
