What a handsome fellow Serling is!  His owner died unexpectedly, and he was passed around among several family members in the aftermath.  Once they caught their collective breath, the decision was made to surrender him to a shelter for adoption by a new family.  The shelter, in turn, sent him to DRT because of our long and outstanding history of placing Dobers in new, forever homes.

Not surprisingly, he was somewhat uncertain upon arriving at Elijah’s House, given all the upset of losing his family and being passed around some since.  But he‘s beginning to relax and warm up as he settles into the routine here, albeit with a bit of wonderment and tentativeness on meeting someone for the first time.

Bewildered is certainly a fair word to describe him at this point.  He’s understandably wondering what is happening in his life.  But that will continue to resolve itself as he learns the consistency and certainty a new, loving home will provide.

As with each of our Dobers who come to us with heartworm, we solicit your assistance in meeting the additional expense of the treatment, and we thank you in advance for your interest in preserving the life of this and others of our Dobers who come to us with these wretched, life-destroying parasites.”

He’s made great strides since the initial few days with us.  He walks nicely on a leash and doesn‘t jump.  And he has a very pretty blue coat.

Volunteer comments:
“Serling is a super sweet and sensitive guy.  If he could tell you his love language, it would definitely be quality time.  He has been around the block a bit, but once you’ve gained his trust, he will not leave your side.  He does well on a leash and is more interested in sniffing all the smells than winning a race.”

“Serling is one of those dogs that make you want to get to know them.  As I entered his outside run, I could see he was watching me with a bit of caution, so I walked to within a few feet and extended my hand and talked to him.  I stood there for a minute and then moved close enough for him to sniff my hand.  He didn’t back away, and after a bit I reached out to rub the back of an ear.”  His appreciation was evident.”

This fellow has faced some challenges before coming to us, and he still has the heartworm treatment to be completed, but he’s showing real promise and improvement so far, and we have every reason to think he’ll settle in well in a new, loving home.

If you think your home and family may be a match, make an appointment to meet him once your application is approved, and come see for yourself what a gem he is.  You won’t be disappointed
