Despite having been overbred for years, this senior Dobergirl’s appearance, energy, and engagement are those of a much younger dog.
She came from a woman who took two dogs from a breeder. As it turned out, they were more than she could handle, so she kept them outside in a dog pen. Eventually, she gave the male back to the breeder, and Harvest came to us as she awaits a new home.
Maybe as a result of being kept outside (and certainly because of not having received heart worm medication), Harvest came to us with heart worms. Treatment for this life-threatening curse is very expensive and also has an element of risk to the dog, but without it, death is certain as the heart worm slowly takes the dog‘s life. If you are moved to contribute to this vital and costly treatment, you will have a direct part in saving this dog‘s life.
As you can see from her pictures, Harvest is very attractive. She’s energetic and interactive, and she loves to be attentive to her human to see what may be happening, always eager to be a part of whatever it is. Understandably, given her “factory-work” background, there’s some relational learning to take place, but the natural Dober inquisitiveness and interest in humans are both undiminished, and she’ll adapt quickly and thoroughly to a loving home and family.
Volunteer comments:
“Harvest is very sweet, but you can tell she is also a bit sensitive. She is very friendly, with just a hint of hesitation as she adjusts to her new surroundings. Don‘t get me wrong, she wants attention and even initiates. As I was working on spreading some grass seed, she would look for opportunities to get my attention. Every time I bent down to pick something up, she would nuzzle her head between my arm and my chest, almost as if she was saying hello and not letting me forget that she was my helper. Despite having previous litters, she is still an active spirit who wants to play, follow, and just be a part of things. Her easygoing nature was also in full display during the cat, as she barely even acknowledged the cat was there while being very attentive to her human friends during the entire process.”
This is truly a lovely senior who is ready to make up for all those years of breeding and to get some quality time in with her new family, enjoying life, love, and the family experience. To learn more, make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved, and come see for yourself what a treasure she is. Should you choose to take her home, there’ll be a veritable harvest of love and companionship to follow.
