This strikingly handsome, perfectly-formed-and-docked senior Doberboy’s appearance and demeanor belie his challenging past.
He came to us from a rescue group/shelter where he was since June after being rescued from a bad living situation and was kept tied up outside. He was very thin, had numerous open pressure sores, and was diagnosed with diabetes. (Management of the diabetes is uncomplicated; we‘ll discuss it with you if you‘re considering adopting him.) Upon intake, we learned he also had intestinal worms as well, but of course we are treating him for that, and they’ll be gone shortly
We named him Discovery for Columbus Day, but we call him Rocky.
So far he seems to have a “gentle soul” personality, and I can tell you from the way he moves and his overall demeanor that this is a fellow of understated and quiet confidence, and one who represents all the finer qualities that are representative of the breed. How he ever ended up with an unfit home and then was left to languish for months at a rescue is beyond my comprehension. We’re just thankful he’s now with us.
Volunteer comments:
"Discovery is one sweet boy - gentle demeanor, doesn’t appear anxious, and nice manners. He’s lovely!"
“Discovery is just such a loving boy - great temperament and very handsome. After investigating his surroundings, he will come stand beside and lay his head on your leg for some quiet love pats!”
“Rocky is a really good looking Doberboy. He has a fantastic temperament and is definitely a Velcro Dober who’s very comfortable in his own skin. Wherever you go, Rocky is with you every step of the way. When I was busy doing chores, he would lie down close by and wait patiently for me rather than wandering off. He is very attentive and curious but didn‘t bark the entire time we hung out together. He has many desirable traits. He’s loaded with personality and is just the right size and energy level to tag along for any adventure.”
“Discovery: is the most handsome boy ever! He‘s got a great disposition and is very calm and gentle.”
“Discovery is a gentleman. He sat quietly beside me while I ate at the picnic table. There was no begging, pawing, whining, or drooling – just a quiet presence that said he would be very happy with anything I might offer. When I did so, he very gently ate it from my palm. Later, after he had moved, I would give him the command to ‘sit’ before offering him a treat and he promptly and consistently did.”
““Discovery is very energetic, likes to get petted, and wants to give kisses - a real lover boy. He’s very interested in his surroundings and likes to sniff things out. He‘s a sweet guy.”
The fact is, this is an outstanding fellow who will make an excellent and loyal companion in a proper home. The pressure sores are healing; the worms are being eradicated; he’s putting on a few pounds to bring him to proper, trim weight; and shortly he’ll be in terrific shape once again and ready for a loving home and family where his superb appearance and character are rightly appreciated, perhaps for the first time in his life.
If you think you may be the type of owner for such a dog and would like to help Discovery discover a new life, make an appointment to meet him once your application has been approved. I wouldn’t wait long; the discerning Dober person is sure to act expeditiously.
