This lovely old, Grand Dame of a Dobergirl came to us from a family that had her since a pup and is now moving into a townhouse where she is not allowed.

The fact is, time passes; things change.  A lot can happen in nearly a decade with any family.  For these folks, life changed in a way that will make things better for them but results in unexpected and unwanted change for their beloved dog.

So she has come to us, a much-loved and pampered old girl with a sweet disposition and kindly manner.  Not surprisingly, she’s somewhat perplexed by the sudden changes in her life, as her sober-faced pictures suggest, but there’s more in those pictures besides, and the discerning observer will see a truly lovely Dobergirl despite her age and weight.  She’s a lady all the same and one who will make an outstanding companion in the years she has remaining.

Despite her current weight, she loves to roll over on command as far as she’s able, for belly rubs.  And if you stop, she‘ll lick your hand begging you for more belly rubs.  And happily, she’s already lost four pounds and is much more active already, running around the fields and exploring all the interesting spots.

Her family’s lives being affected by changes is also indicated by the fact that she was heart-worm positive.  Treatment for eradicating heart worms is very costly and risky besides, but the alternative is sure death, so if you are moved to donate toward the cost of her treatment, you’ll have a part in saving her life and sending her along to a proper home.

Her former mom says, “She’s a great dog and very loving.  She’s an inside dog and has never been aggressive towards anyone, although she does love to chase wild beasties (snarky squirrels) if she has the chance.”

Volunteer comments:
“ You won‘t find a sweeter old-lady Dober.   It’s so comical - she instantly becomes "paralyzed" by any attention you give her.  The moment you stop, she just looks up at you imploringly with the softest brown eyes you‘ve ever seen.  When she’s receiving attention, she is 100% focused on you.  There can be other Dobers barking in the background, and she doesn‘t hear any of it as she just soaks up the love.  She has been a bit hesitant to explore her new surroundings on her own, but she’ll follow you wherever you go.”

And I should add that she also loves to lie out in the grass on a sunny spot, and should you go over to her, she‘ll roll over to have her belly rubbed!

If your home and heart are big enough to take a senior Dober, you won’t find a sweeter one than this. Make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved. You won’t be disappointed.
