As you can see from her pictures, this beautiful Dobergirl’s remarkably youthful looks belie her chronological status as a senior Dober.

She was owned since a pup by a strong, successful, independent woman who kept her as a house dog and inside companion all her life.  Sadly, that dear woman is now approaching ninety, and after a recent hospital stay acknowledged that her beloved companion needed to go to a new home, since she could no longer care for her.

Here’s how a family member describes the dog:
“My aunt, who is nearly 88, has kept Priss inside, but a neighbor has been taking her out for short walks and working with her, which Priss enjoys.  She will bark when someone comes to the door, but once they are invited in, she stops and is very good with people.  My Aunt had her since she was a puppy and she loves her very much, but a few weeks ago after being in the hospital again for a week, she decided she is simply not able to take care of her beloved dog anymore and that we needed to find a new home for her.”

"Priss is an amazing dog! I truly can‘t believe that she‘s 10 years old, she is so full of energy! It‘s tough to get her to leave your side if you‘re around, and she‘s always looking for pets . (She‘ll bump your hand if she‘s not getting enough attention.) She has great leash manners and is such a joy to spend time with."

Being a senior, not surprisingly she needs a bit of dental work (DRT is seeing to that), and she takes medicine to prevent an occasional seizure (again, not uncommon and easily managed).  As with most of us as we get to the "golden years," she has some cataract growth, but she has adapted quite readily to her new surroundings, and runs and plays easily with her toys.

Despite her lifelong attachment to one person, she is at ease with us and is very sweet, friendly, and engaging.  Having been inside most of her life, she’s enthusiastically enjoying running out in the grassy pastures here at Elijah’s House.  She’s obedient and listens when called, and given her background, she‘ll certainly be a wonderful pet and companion.

Volunteer comments:

"Miss Priss is a senior girl transitioning to her new surroundings, but she doesn‘t lack in sweetness.  She is very gentle and pulls at your heart strings when you meet her.  She came right up to me upon introduction and is a willing kisser, if given the opportunity.  Miss Priss is not an independent Dober; she is used to companionship and will want to be close with a new family, too.  In return, she‘ll give back wholeheartedly to her family."

"Miss Priss is a sweetheart of a dog who loves affection and would greatly benefit from a quiet, stable home.  While at DRT, she appears to be feeling a sense of loss from her special person but would most probably ease into a new home and quietly thrive with regular and consistent love and care."

"Miss Priss is a beautiful senior girl who is truly a Velcro dobe! She loves attention and craves companionship more than anything. If you’re looking for a pup that will follow you around and worship the ground you walk on, look no further! She’s a gem!"

"What a treasure of a senior! Miss Priss has suffered true heartbreak with the unfortunate separation from her previous owner. She is quite a little lady and craves human contact. She clearly has been lovingly cared for and will be eternally grateful to find her next "person". Giving this senior sweetheart a loving home for the rest of her life will bring you immeasurable joy. She will be the sweetest, constant companion you could ever want. Giving her consistent love and care for the rest of her life will be a blessing for you both!!!:

If your heart is open to this lovely senior Dober, make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved, and come spend a bit of time observing and interacting with her.  Chances are, you won’t go home without her if you do.
