This petite, playful, engaged and engaging Dobergirl came to us from a shelter, and we have no background information on her.
She arrived with heart worms, those opportunistic, insidious, parasitic thieves of canine life that require very costly-yet-vital, potentially life-threatening treatment to eradicate. Heart worms are easily avoided if the owner will give the dog the necessary, infrequent, chewable medication. But once they have found their way into the heart, they are difficult to remove, and the treatment is very costly.
Thankfully, treatment eradicates the worms, and with the necessary-to-all-dogs, occasional medicine “treat,” they can live healthy, worm-free lives. If you would like to have a part in sharing the significant, additional cost of saving Choco’s life, please make a donation to her benefit.
In her short time with us, we see that in her zeal to play with other dogs or to come back into the building, she will climb a fence. Mind you, she doesn't run away, and this can probably be managed by simply being out with her (or watching when she is out), and redirecting her if she looks as though she’s thinking of “going over the wall.”
Also, as with some dogs, she tends to be protective of her food if another dog comes near, but as mentioned above, she loves to play with and gets along well with other canines.
By my guess, this is a lovely little girl who has simply been left to her own devices most of the time and who likely will respond to love, nurture, consistent guidance, and a bit of obedience training.
Volunteer comments: “This pretty little girl is an absolute love bug! Her need for love is palpable. I gave her a treat, and after she took a bite she dropped it on the ground, wanting my attention more than her treat. Her real hunger is to be shown kindness and love. She will try to curl up in your lap once she gets her wiggles out. She’s so appreciative of any attention she receives. She’s a quiet girl (I didn’t hear her bark at all). Once she finds her forever home and experiences consistent love and affection, you will have found yourself a Dobie who will adore you for eternity!”
“Choco has a bit of a playful free spirit, which I think will make her do well in most social situations. She is a little smaller in stature and is cute as a button. She can definitely run and climb (as in fences), so she will need the right home setting to keep her safe and secure. She is sweet and a little submissive when she meets a stranger, so I think she will be able to adapt to most any environment, although I think her best environment is one where she is going to get a moderate to high level of daily exercise. She isn't hyper; she just seems happiest when she gets an opportunity to be playful and free. Her great looks are just a bonus. This one won't be around long.”
By all estimates, this is some great “raw” Dober material that simply awaits a loving home with people who will give her the attention and interaction she needs and deserves. If you think your home may be a match, make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved, and come see for yourself what a gem she is. |
