You’ve probably heard of the Sphinx cat, a hairless breed developed in the sixties through selective breeding. I guess if you like that sort of thing, you might want to have one, but it’s not what we expect in our beloved Dobers.

Nevertheless, this pretty and lovable Dobergirl is currently hairless - wasn’t bred for it, isn’t permanent, but blue Dobers sometimes have thin coats due to low thyroid, and this one has a coat about as thin as they can get.

That having been said, she’s now on a very modestly-priced medication that will, with a bit of time, restore her coat to a proper thickness and luster, so don’t be put off at her temporary hairlessness. She’s destined for glory before long.

She was dropped off by her owners at a shelter with the explanation that they couldn’t afford to keep her any longer. While I’m sympathetic to their desire to have a dog with hair, there is a reasonable solution, and it’s being implemented now. Seems to me a family member might deserve a bit more consideration, but it's their loss, and soon a wonderful gain to her new family.

As you can see from her pics, she’s a pretty girl with a nice face, and she has the biggest and happiest Doberman grin you've ever seen!  I think she may be a bit embarrassed by her lack of hair, but that doesn’t diminish her love or appreciation in any way, and she’ll appreciate nothing more than having a family once more to hold her and make of her and play with her as her coat is restored in the weeks ahead. Soon she’ll be a calendar dog again, and maybe you’ll be the fortunate family to make her part of your home.

And interestingly enough, with the recent, very cold weather we thought she might appreciate wearing a coat overnight.  She dutifully stood still for us as we put it on her, making no objection.  But in the morning, we found it lying next to her in the bed.  What a girl.

Volunteer comments:
“I thought she was very sweet and polite, not pushy.  Since she had just been spayed, I didn't get to see how she played or walked on a leash. She’s a very sweet and pleasantly plump girl.”

“This is one gentle girl, she deserves a loving peaceful home!”

“Illie is a plump female that is just getting her energy back after a Thyroid diagnosis.  Great personality!  Illie is one of only a few Dobies I have seen that will actually smile at you when you call her.  She gets excited to be your friend and get some attention, but overall is a very laid back and manageable Dobie.  The sight of the other Dobies will raise her attention, but she doesn't get overly concerned with them.  I say this because it is this personality that will make her easy to walk and enjoy in public settings.  Illie is like a favorite old pair of shoes - she is broken in and fits just right!”

“Illie is a lovely little girl that loves to be petted.”

“Illie is a sweet young lady who needs someone to love her and help restore her thyroid health and recover her girlish figure!  She still is not quite feeling her perfect, cute self, but with a nurturing, caring new home she will absolutely thrive!”

If your heart responds to this gentle girl, make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved, and come take a look past the temporary condition to the permanent heart of love and companionship that radiates out from just beneath the surface. A lovely member of the family she will make.
