It’s our belief that this beautiful Dobergal was dumped by an unscrupulous breeder when she developed a mammary tumor and the breeder didn’t want to go to the expense of having it removed.  It’s not uncommon for "breeders" to dump these dogs that they view as breeding machines by the age of 5 or 6, after they've used up their ability to reproduce twice a year.  The mammary tumor probably just made it easier to do at this point with this dear girl.  It’s truly maddening, and the only printable thing to be said about it is that having been dumped will now allow this wonderful Dober to enjoy the blessing of a true home with a loving family, where she’ll never be seen as a mere commodity again.

A new rescue angel took her to our vet at our request, and we picked her up there after her intake exam.  As always, we tip our hats to one who cared enough to pick her up, find overnight accommodations for her, and then bring her to DRT.  Our work would be severely hampered without the care and assistance of folks such as this, and we are most grateful for their service on behalf of our beloved breed.

Despite her former lack of familial affection, she’s super friendly, easygoing, and walks nicely on a leash.  She's so happy to be inside that you always see her curled up on her bed and blankets, never disturbing a thing.  She’s also very much enjoying the unfettered freedom to run around the fields and search for fence lizards; she's thoroughly fascinated by them!  It’s possible she was penned up and never had the opportunity to explore until now.

Volunteer comments:
“This loving little girl is just longing for a home.  One of the volunteers had her out while doing chores and talked to her as she was nosing around, and when he left for the day she ran from door to door looking for him.  Such devotion from a few minutes of kind attention.  Just imagine how devoted she’ll be in a proper home for the rest of her life!”

“Pecan is a medium-sized Dobie with an easygoing personality.  She has been quick to accept her new surroundings and is a low-maintenance girl.  She likes to explore and will do so independently if given the opportunity.  She seems to be very aware of ground scents.  (I wonder if she has a history of chasing chipmunks and squirrels.  If so, I would expect her to clear out her new backyard very quickly!)  At this point, she's a mostly-quiet girl who seems to be reveling in her new-found independence while at the same time thoroughly appreciating all the love and attention.  Her gentle personality and calm demeanor are sure to make her a good fit in her new home.”

The short of it is this is a wonderful representative of our favorite breed that will be an excellent and grateful companion.  If you’d like the opportunity to become her forever family, make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved, and come spend a bit of time observing and interacting with her.
