A Last Minute Save Means We Need Your Help
Doberman Rescue of the Triad received a call on a Saturday evening about a five-month-old male Doberman in distress. He had been lethargic and had no appetite, and his owners had taken him to the emergency vet hospital where radiographs showed cloth-type material in his stomach and blocking his small intestine. They couldn’t afford the estimated three-to-five-thousand-dollar emergency surgery, so having no choice, they surrendered him to DRT through the emergency hospital.

We hoped this sweet puppy could be kept stable until Monday, when our regular vet would be back in town and could do the surgery for a greatly-reduced rate.  Unfortunately, Sunday morning he started vomiting and it was necessary to take him into surgery immediately to prevent possible sepsis and/or dying off of intestines due to the blockage and then needing resection of intestines during surgery.

Thankfully the surgery was successful and revealed not only three socks inside him - he was also full of an astronomical number of intestinal and roundworms, which is no doubt why he is skin and bones, weighing only 31.9 lbs. The good news is, with loving care he’ll pull through and be the star in someone’s heart one day soon.

Right now, DRT needs some stars. Our cost for this surgery came to thirty-nine-hundred dollars, and DRT’s medical fund cannot cover all this. To be clear, this dear puppy would be dead right now if it weren't for DRT stepping up and shouldering the exorbitant expense of this surgery, and this was with a "discount!" Would you please help by giving a special donation toward this save? You may donate using PayPal on the website or by mailing a check. Thank You! (Please designate 'For Chopper'.)

Our heartfelt thanks to all of you who responded to our appeal on behalf of Chopper.  In a time when many feel helpless due to the invasion of the virus, upheaval in politics, and various other seemingly unmanageable problems, you have taken action where something good could actually be accomplished.  As a result, the life of a young dog has been saved, he has been restored to good health, and he has been adopted to the loving home of a repeat adopter, where he will live out his life in company with one of our other rescue Dobes, "Curfew."

Having come in at thirty-one pounds, he was up to fifty pounds when he went home.

Thank you for caring enough to take action in donating for his surgeries and care, and take heart in the knowledge that you did something concrete that made a difference for the good.
