Seems to be somewhat afraid of cats and will back away from a cat if she is approached..
Good with older children.
This lovely little Dobergirl came to us because, in her youthfulness, she didn't know how to behave with other dogs and her former owners didn't know how to resolve that childish behavior. She received a quick lesson from one of our more mature Dobers upon her arrival at Elijah's House though. She foolishly tried her barky, snarly stuff, and the other one lit into her through the gate, showing her in a moment exactly what a mature, adult Doberman is like when she's schooling a youngster. Following that introduction, Taco has been much more of an angel! We couldn't help but laugh and nod our heads knowingly. Since then we've taken her out for a walk with Franchese, who is also young and can be reactive, and with the exception of one brief “bark-off,” they walked nicely together. And she's been nothing but sweet with a couple of our other dogs, play-bowing even with her food right between them! It looks as though there was just a bit of learning to take place with her (and perhaps some occasional follow-up, as needed until the lesson “settles”). Volunteer comments: “At this young age and lack of training, she's a typical puppy – doesn't walk straight on a leash, is distracted by the birds she sees or hears, and is very affectionate after a few moments of warming up. Since her initial comeuppance from Franchese, she wasn't very reactive with other dogs unless the other dog started barking at her. When walking on leash, she's very curious about everything yet easily corrected. She's gentle and sweet, albeit a bit timid at first but warms right up.” This energetic and inexperienced young one is full of good will and loving enthusiasm. If you think your home may be a match, make an appointment to meet her once your application is approved, and come spend a little time observing and interacting with her. This “Taco” may be just the thing to spice up your life for many years to come.
