This handsome Doberboy came to us from a person serving in the military who was recently transferred.  Here’s how he describes the need to surrender him:
“Mace has been with my family since he was 2 months old.  Recently I received orders to a duty station out of the area and purchased a new home there.  I didn't know at the time I signed the contract that the HOA does not allow Dobermans.  I do not want him to go to a shelter where there is a chance to be euthanized, and I have been looking for a good home for him but have been unable to find one.  My family and I have invested a lot of money and care in him, because he is a huge part of our family and we just want the best for him.”

My heart goes out to this family even as I am angry at the ignorance of those who have no concept of what a Doberman is actually like.

This fellow greets with a huge Doberman grin when he meets a person.  He sits on command, gives his paw for treats, and has lived and played with both family and neighborhood children ranging in age between five and thirteen.  He also occasionally plays with a neighbor pit bull pup.  When it’s sunny, he loves to lie out and sunbathe.  He likes car rides (a rare Dober that doesn’t!) And even is agreeable with nail trims (some aren’t).  He loves to fetch a stick, and his favorite toys are tennis balls and bones for strong chewers.

Volunteer comments:
"Mace is a lover boy!  He enjoys being outside helping and is equally at home on his bed.  Oh, and he loves a head rub!"

“He’s a little shy sometimes and can be reserved on initial meeting with strangers.  He likes to run and play with toys and is fully engaged and interactive when playing.  He’s also good with other dogs.”

"This beautiful red male did the cutest thing.   When he was put into an exercise area for the first time, he pointed out every little pile of dog litter for the volunteer to clean up – as though he was assisting!   Or maybe he was supervising.  Either way, it made the human’s work easier and we’re all fans of his now."

"Mace is an incredible Doberman that lives to show off! His running is pure pleasure to observe and the big grin he gets after such a run is so cute! Friendly guy who seems quite fun loving."

As you can see, this is an outstanding dog who, through no fault of his own, is having to find a new family.  We’re just glad to be able to help.  If you think he may be a match for your home, make an appointment to meet him once your application is approved, and come spend some time interacting with him.  You know you’re going to want him if you do.
